The Ukraine national team played against Georgia in the UEFA Nations League group stage MD 5 game

The starting line-up of the Blue-and-Yellows included four Shakhtar players: captain Mykola Matviienko in the centre of defence, right-back Yukhym Konoplia, central midfielder Heorhii Sudakov and winger Oleksandr Zubkov.

The match started well for the Ukrainians, and Serhii Rebrov’s team opened the scoring already in the 7th minute: Sudakov and Mudryk played a combination on the right wing, Mykhailo shot to the penalty area, and Georgian defender Kvirkvelia deflected a ball into his own net – 0-1. The teams spent most of the half in a positional struggle, and shortly before the break, the Blue-and-Yellows had two chances to widen the lead. First, Mudryk rushed through the half of the field, but hit the goalkeeper from a sharp angle, and then Sudakov led Zubkov to a shooting position with an elegant throw-in, but the latter missed the target.

The football became more open in the second half, and the opponents exchanged dangerous moments several times. Zubkov (made a low-driven shot near the post) and Dovbyk (sent the ball over the crossbar from the goal-area line) could have scored for the Ukrainians. In the visiting team, Khvicha (hit the crossbar) and Mikautadze (his shot went in centimetres from the post) had great opportunities. Another Miner, Dmytro Kryskiv, appeared on the field in the middle of the half. And the Georgians managed to equalise the score in the 76th minute: Trubin saved Kochorashvili’s shot, but Mikautadze was the first to pursue rebounds. Nazaryna and Hutsuliak could have secured a win for our team already in the added time, but both hit the goalkeeper from the penalty area. 1-1 – Ukraine tied with Georgia.

The Ukrainians will face the Albania national team away in the final match of the UEFA Nations League group stage on November 19. The game kicks off at 21:45 Kyiv time.
