Shakhtar goalkeeper Dmytro Riznyk spoke about the match against PSV and his own record for the number of saves in the UEFA Champions League in an exclusive comment for Shakhtar TV

– Dmytro, you set a new Champions League record for the number of saves in the match against PSV – 15. What does it mean to you?
– Well, I broke the record, but we didn’t get the result we wanted. The team’s goals are the priority; we should have won this match, and individual achievements come second. So for me personally it’s nice, but everyone is very disappointed that the team didn’t win.

– But what do you think about after each important save? What are your thoughts?
– Nothing in particular. Every save gives the team confidence, so I work, I do my best. I give the team confidence.

– This match was full of different emotions: Shakhtar played very confidently, but, unfortunately, it ended in a painful defeat. What did you think about after the final whistle?
– You know, it’s a complete devastation, a black hole where you fell in such a closed stadium, with such noise. Only devastation and powerlessness.

– The last minutes of the match became decisive. What, in your opinion, caused the defeat – the fact that the team were reduced to ten men or a loss of focus? Maybe something else?
– It’s hard to say what exactly. And the first goal gave PSV confidence – they started to run forward, the stands were pushing them, and we got a bit flat at the end. But at this level, you can’t play like that, even with one man down.

– We saw that Andrii Piatov and Raimond van der Gouw supported you after the match. At one time, these goalkeepers achieved great results in European competitions, now they are coaching you. What exactly did they say, what did you take away from it?
– Yes, of course, everyone supported me and said that this is football, that such things happen. For me, it’s also an experience, albeit a bitter one. You need to become stronger, move forward and keep working.

– It’s been a few days since the match. How do you deal with emotions after such heavy defeats?
– You just need to get away from it a little, spend time with your family. My family and son have come to visit me now, so he doesn’t let me get upset.

– How did your family congratulate you on your record?
– Well, they said: “You did a great job! It's just unfortunate that you lost.”
