Shakhtar defender Valerii Bondar answered the journalists’ questions before the match against Young Boys
– You played 3 matches in the last 10 days. How are you and the team doing? (Football 24)
– Yes, in the last 12 days we had a difficult period, many matches. Basically, like always in our rhythm, when there are matched of the Champions League, Ukrainian League and Ukrainian Cup. But I managed to rest already after the last match against Chornomorets, where I did not play – that is quite a lot of time for our pace, for what we endure. So I am one hundred percent ready, just like our team. We are ready to show what we are capable of, and ready to show our football.
– How can you describe the opponent? Young Boys are famous as a team that use high pressing, so how do you plan to deal with it when transitioning from defence? (Shakhtar TV)
– We will have a plan that we will follow. I do not want to reveal all the secrets about how we will act at the press conference. I think tomorrow you will be able to see how Shakhtar will play on the football field. In general, as for Young Boys, this is a very good team that compete in the European Cups every year and have strong performers. But we are Shakhtar, we will play in our home arena and we want to show our football, our quality and our DNA.
– Your team have not won yet in this year’s Champions League. Does this fact put pressure on the players? (ua.tribuna.com)
– I do not think there should be any pressure on the team, because everyone understands that these are matches of the Champions League. And if you look at the standings, you can see Bayern, the top team, next to us, so, in my opinion, we still have matches ahead, where we should show a certain result and a very high-quality, good game. And we hope to show it tomorrow in the Champions League, get a positive result for us and for the whole country.
– The team have a very busy schedule now. How do players switch and rest? (ua.tribuna.com)
– Now it was so unusual when we stayed in one place for four days and did not go anywhere. I do not even remember the last time it was like that. Actually, many things have already been said about the fact that we travel a lot, and all football people and experts understand how difficult it can be. I think every football person understands that recovery is impossible on buses or trains. But we are used to this rhythm, and we do not want to pay special attention to these moments. We came here to play, show our football and represent Shakhtar Donetsk.
– Shakhtar have been conceding in almost every match recently. How do you plan to fix it, because each goal can be decisive in the Champions League? (ua.tribuna.com)
– We will do everything not to concede. We always want to play attentively in all moments. I think if we approach the game as we always approach all serious matches, we will be able to get the result we deserve.
