Shakhtar women’s team hosted Metalist 1925 at home

The round 10 game should have taken place a week ago, but it was postponed due to a long air raid alert in Kyiv and Kyiv Oblast. On November 6, Roman Zaiev’s team played a fixture against Obolon, and already in 3 days they hosted one of the league leaders.

Squad rotation

The coaching staff of the Orange-and-Blacks applied significant squad rotation and made 6 substitutions at once. Henyk, Sikorska, Myronenko, Starukhina and Mostova replaced Veherych, Holovach, Maslovska, Zaborovets, Lutsan and Shevtsova.

The visiting team started the game more actively, controlled the ball more and threatened the goal more often. Zaiev’s players relied on counterattacks based on the speed of Vykaliuk, who acted as a forward. In the 15th minute, Metalist 1925 converted a set piece. Basanska made an aerial pass to Khimych, who headed the ball along the goalmouth, and Yelyzaveta Molodiuk got ahead – 0-1. In 10 minutes, the former player of Shakhtar netted a brace, this time making an accurate header after Aleksanian’s pass – 0-2. Vykaliuk had a chance to reduce the gap in the last seconds of the half, but her long-range shot missed the target.

Broken streak

The second half started with Karban’s spectacular save, when she reacted to the shot into the bottom corner and turned the ball for a corner. The Orange-and-Blacks responded with a fast combination move and a promising set piece – Vykaliuk shot over the target. In the 55th minute, the loss of the ball in their own half of the field led to the third conceded goal. Initially, Karban cleared the ball, but Shabalina managed to pursue rebounds – 0-3. Holovach successfully got into the game, replacing Sikorska and creating a goal-scoring opportunity almost immediately: Viktoriia received a long pass, quickly ran away from the opponents and shot dangerously into the top corner – over the crossbar. In the 78th minute, the visiting team scored for the fourth time, when Pantsulaia turned the aerial wing cross from the goal-area line right home with a header – 0-4. The Orange-and-Blacks were looking for options in the attack until the end and disappointed the visiting team before the final whistle. Mokhnach took a corner from the right wing, Veherych won in the air, and Zaborovets kicked the ball into the net with a one-touch shot while falling.

1-4 – Shakhtar women’s team lost to the Kharkiv-based side and broke their unbeaten streak that consisted of 4 matches (3 wins and a draw). The Orange-and-Blacks gained 14 points at the first stage of the competition and are in the fifth spot. Roman Zaiev’s team will play in the first group (top six) at the second stage of the championship.
