Shakhtar women’s team faced Polissia Zhytomyr away in the 9th round of the Vyshcha League

There was one change in the starting line-up of Shakhtar women’s team compared to the previous match: Myronenko replaced suspended Henyk on the field.

A successful start with goals by Chaika and Veherych

Shakhtar got into the game confidently and quickly took the lead, converting the first goal-scoring opportunity: Vykaliuk regained the ball, broke into the penalty area from the wing and passed to Chaika for finishing, the latter gave the team a lead with a one-touch shot. Shakhtar did not take long to double the advantage: Myronenko shot from the wing to the goalmouth, where Rozlutska failed to clear the ball, and after Vykaliuk’s shot into the post it bounced off to Chaika who hit the target with a well-placed kick. In the next episode, Zaborovets led Vykaliuk to operative space with a perfect pass, the latter ran into the penalty area and passed to Veherych for the final shot. The coaching staff of the Zhytomyr team reacted to the course of events with a double substitution: Bordiuh and Lohvinova replaced Chuvylko and Yaremchuk on the field. Polissia created half moments near Ustinova’s gate from time to time, but it did not lead to the goal thanks to the responsible defence of the Miners. Bordiuh had a chance to reduce the gap in the 34th minute, but she hit the goalkeeper from a close distance. Until the end of the first half, the game was mostly played in the central part of the field.

Wide-open half

The second half started toe-to-toe with more successful actions of Shakhtar, and Myronenko widened the lead in the 54th minute, making a spectacular shot from the semi-circle into the top corner. In the 61st minute, the coaching staff of the Miners made a double substitution: Holovach and Kotovets came on instead of Mostova and Myronenko. Soon, Chaika was close to a hat-trick but did not manage to adjust for the shot properly, and the ball fell off her foot. In the 69th minute, the Zhytomyr team reduced the gap after Tril’s direct set-piece shot and Azizova’s follow-up. In the next episode, Tril threatened Ustinova’s goal again with a long-range shot – over the crossbar. The teams exchanged goal-scoring opportunities at the end of the meeting: first, Mushchenska threatened Ustinova’s goal with a tight shot from outside the penalty area, and later Zaborovets hit the crossbar, shooting over the wall from a free kick.

4-1 – Shakhtar won the away match against Polissia. Roman Zaiev’s team will play their next game after a two-week international break against Metalist 1925 on November 2. The meeting at the Arsenal-Arena will be streamed on Shakhtar’s official YouTube channel.
