Shakhtar faced Kolos away in the 10th round of the UPL
The starting line-up of the Miners was as follows: Riznyk played in the goal, Matviienko and Bondar appeared in the centre of defence, Konoplia and Pedro Henrique played on the wings, Kryskiv, Bondarenko and Sudakov formed a triangle in the middle of the field as usual, Zubkov and Newertton acted as wingers, and Eguinaldo had a central forward position.
Chances to score on both sides
The teams started playing pretty actively and exchanged sharp moments several times throughout the half. First, Dmytro Riznyk pulled the shot by the forward of the host team, Bolivar, from under the crossbar, and the defenders did not let Eguinaldo shoot after Zubkov’s cross and Newertton’s throw-in. Bolivar could have turned the wing cross home to the near post, but he missed the target, and Eguinaldo shot over the near top corner after Bondarenko’s pass. Sudakov (Pakholiuk’s save) and Zubkov (next to the right post) made dangerous long-range shots. At the end of the first half, Konoplia led Zubkov to the goal with a cool diagonal pass, the goalkeeper of the Kovalivka team was ahead of him for a moment, and then Oleksandr hit the wall from a promising free kick.
One own goal decided everything
During the break, the coaching staff of the Orange-and-Blacks made two substitutions in attack, fielding Kevin and Sikan. The Ukrainian forward immediately had a good opportunity to score, when he shot from the left corner of the penalty area past the near post after Sudakov’s pass. The host team responded to this with Tsurikov’s moment, whose shot was turned for a corner by Riznyk. And yet, the Miners managed to open the scoring: in the 59th minute, Sudakov launched an attack and passed to Zubkov, who made a sharp shot to the penalty area, and the defender of the Kovalivka team, Krasniqi, deflected the ball into his own net – 0-1. Soon, Zubkov (his shot under the near post was blocked by the goalkeeper) and Bondarenko (he made a long-range shot, but Pakholiuk saved Kolos again) could have exploited a success. In turn, the opponent had a chance to fight back, but Bezborodko shot over the crossbar from advantageous position. The host team even managed to score in the added time, but the goal was not counted due to a foul in the attack. 1-0 – Shakhtar defeated Kolos.
Next, Marino Pusic’s team will have the third match of the UEFA Champions League league phase. Shakhtar will face English Arsenal in London on October 22. The meeting at the Emirates Stadium will kick off at 22:00 Kyiv time.
