Shakhtar U19 met with Arsenal London U19 away in the UEFA Youth League round 3
Shakhtar U19 coaching staff picked the following line-up for the game against the Gunners: Bahlai took place between the sticks, Oharkov and Drozd played as fullbacks, Bashmarin and Kostiuk acted at centre-back, Tsukanov, Smetana and Bundash appeared in midfield, with Tiutiunov and Halonskyi acting as wingers and Lomaha playing in the central forward position.
Halonskyi's only and important goal
The opening minutes of the encounter were evenly matched and the Miners made the most of their opportunities, taking the lead in the 14th minute: Drozd crosses from the flank to the goal area where Halonskyi ran from behind Clarke and shot into the bottom left corner. After that, the opponents did not force events, so the pace of the game dropped. The teams alternately controlled the ball, but there were no dangerous moments near the goal. Towards the end of the first half, the Gunners became more dangerous and tried to attack from the flanks, but the disciplined defence of the Miners neutralized the threats and orchestrated counterattacks in response, but the score remained unchanged.
Disciplined defence and play on counterattacks
The second half started with a promising flank shot from Ferdinand, but Bahlai turned the ball for a corner, after which Dudziak made another attempt, but the goalkeeper caught the ball. The Miners responded with several dangerous attacks but lacked the final pass to finish the moves. The hosts looked more ambitious, trying to break through the Pitmen’s defence, while the visitors focused on the counterplay. In the 73rd minute, Shakhtar's coaching staff refreshed the attacking line with a double substitution: Tryfanenko and Petruk appeared instead of Tiutiunov and Lomaha. In a couple of minutes, a promising attack was orchestrated by Tsukanov, who made a through pass to Halonskyi, who fed Smetana in the central semi-circle, however the midfielder lacked accuracy. In added time, the game took place in the half of the Miners, who were reduced to ten men after Bundash received a second booking and left the field, but the Orange-and-Blacks managed to hold the score and kept a clean sheet.
