Shakhtar goalkeeper Dmytro Riznyk reflects on the results of the clash with Arsenal, the saved penalty and the support from fans

– Dmytro, how would you assess the team's performance in the match against Arsenal and what was missing to achieve a better result?
– In the first half, we were looking for our play, maybe there was some confusion. Then we talked in the dressing room, and the game was completely different in the second half: we controlled the ball more and were not afraid to act. We lacked just a little bit. We conceded a rather curious goal and could not score. It is very unfortunate.

– What do you think is the reason for the conceded goal?
– Bad luck. That's the only way I can explain it.

– On the positive side, you saved a penalty. Did you practise anything specific? Perhaps Andrii Piatov gave advice since he knows Arsenal well?
– Of course! We analyse the opponents ahead of each game, including penalty kicks. I am very happy that I managed to save the shot, but it is a pity that the team conceded.

– Is saving the penalty a coincidence or the result of practice?
– Penalties are 50/50, so I think it all depends on who is luckier.

– Arsenal are one of the best teams in the world. What can you say about the opponents on the pitch?
– They are a pretty good team that play football, so I think we put up a decent fight and demonstrated a decent play.

– Was there a moment that could break the game in favour of Shakhtar?
– Yes, a goal. If we had scored, the game would have been different.

– Is the result fair?
– I think we could have drawn.

– What aspects after the game with Arsenal would you like to improve before the next matches of the Champions League?
– I think it's all mentality. We know how to play football, and the most important thing is psychology: how we will adjust and be less afraid. In the first half, we might have overthought things a bit, but in the second half, we came out and showed that we can compete even against giants like Arsenal.

– Despite the fact that there were many Londoners in the stands who supported Arsenal, Ukrainian fans were also present. Did you feel supported? After the match you thanked them.
– There were many fans – we thank them for their support even in London. We have heard everyone, so the whole team are grateful to the fans.

– What do you personally feel when you get such support from Ukrainians abroad?
– Of course, when you hear your native language, it's easier to play, it has a positive effect on the psychological condition, so it's only for the benefit of the team.
