Shakhtar midfielder Artem Bondarenko reflects on the draw with Dynamo, the tension on the field and the support from fans
– Artem, was a draw truly the fair result for both teams or did Shakhtar deserve the win?
– I think we deserved to win because we played very good football and created many chances. It is clear that after the red card we had to defend the last 30 minutes, but before that we dominated and were in the lead. It's a pity that we couldn't preserve the victory, but I think we showed a decent play.
– How intense was the atmosphere of the Ukrainian Clasico on the field?
– It was intense, as usual: everyone saw emotions and passion. Dynamo wanted to win, and so did we. From the first minutes – yellow cards, tension, so I think it was interested to watch.
– You opened the score, but the moment of the goal was a bit unclear. Recall and describe it.
– To be honest, I don't quite remember. Sudakov took the corner, and there were numerous rebounds in the penalty area. At first, it appeared that Eguinaldo shot towards the goal, but the defenders cleared it off the line. I was just the first to find my way, and the ball flew into the net.
– You said that after Kryskiv was sent off, you had to defend more. Tell us how difficult it was to play with one man down?
– It is difficult to play against such a team as Dynamo, leading in the score. We wanted to preserve the victory because it was important in view of the tournament position. It's a pity that we conceded at the end of the game, but that's football.
– Taras Stepanenko entered the field instead of you in the second half. How did the appearance of the captain affect the game?
– Taras is a captain with a character that helps in difficult situations, and the game required such a reliable person as Stepanenko, so he appeared on the field and tried to keep the score.
– Can we say that this game against Dynamo Kyiv is one of the best of the season?
– I think so, but that was until the red card. As I said, it was great football with good opponents on their field. I would like to say that it was the best match, but we didn't win it, so I probably can't say that.
– After the game, you thanked the fans, ultras were present. How important is support during the Ukrainian Clasico?
– Very important! We are glad that they have the opportunity to attend this match, and we do everything to make them like it. We know why we play football, and everyone understands that, so we want to please them.
