The Ukraine national team faced Czechia away in the 2nd round of the UEFA Nations League group stage

Ukraine starting line-up included two Shakhtar players: defender Mykola Matviienko and midfielder Taras Stepanenko.

The host team started the meeting more actively, created several dangerous moments and naturally were the first to score: Sulc scored in the 21st minute. The Blue-and-Yellows seized the initiative after conceded goal and had several good chances (for example, Zabarnyi hit the crossbar after Mudryk’s cross). In the end, Serhii Rebrov’s team managed to equalize the score in the 37th minute: Shaparenko passed from the left wing into the goal area, and Vanat headed the ball accurately – 1-1. However, the Czechs took the lead again in the time added to the first half – Sulc scored from the penalty area.

From the start of the second half of the match, the Ukrainians spent almost all the time in the opponent’s part of the field trying to find moments near the rival’s goal. Vanat and Mudryk had good chances but both missed the target from advantageous positions. Another Miner Heorhii Sudakov, who, however, immediately received a yellow card for waving his arm past his opponent, appeared on the field in the 69th minute. In the 80th minute, during one of the few counterattacks, Czechia earned a spot-kick which Soucek converted. But in the 84th minute, Ukraine reduced the gap to a minimum again: Sudakov scored with a header after Tsyhankov’s cross. Pikhalonok and Sudakov had chances to save a draw, but the goalkeeper saved the Czechs in both moments. 2-3 – second defeat of the Ukrainian team.

Ukraine will play the next matches of the UEFA Nations League against Georgia and Czechia on October 11 and 14.
