Shakhtar U19 hosted Karpaty Lviv U19 in the Youth League MD 6 game at the Arsenal Arena
Shakhtar U19 manager Oleksii Bielik picked the following line-up for the match against Karpaty U19: Bahlai took place between the sticks. Drozd and Halonskyi played as fullbacks, Harabazhii and Oharkov were at centre-back, Smetana, Tiutiunov and Tsukanov appeared in midfield, Dabo and Yushchenko acted as wingers, with Lomaha playing in the central forward position.
A half with a small number of chances
The opponents immediately set a high pace, entering into a mutual struggle for the initiative and exchanging dangerous attacks. The actions of the Green-and-Whites turned out to be more successful, and already in the 9th minute the score was opened: Hushynets broke into the penalty area and produced a strong shot, Bahlai managed to react, but was unable to catch the ball, allowing Burenko to send it into the net. The Orange-and-Blacks immediately became more active and began to look for approaches to Domchak's goal. In the 26th minute, after impressive individual actions, Tiutiunov could equalize, but Kopyl blocked his attempt at the last moment. The Lviv side responded with Tlumak’s dangerous shot from a set piece, however Bahlai parried it. In the next episode, Reznik threatened the Pitmen's goal after a switch play, but the midfielder failed to prepare and the ball sliced from his foot. Before the break, the game was evenly matched, but neither team created any real dangerous chances near the goal.
Bahlai’s confident play and outstanding outcome
After the break, Shakhtar U19 coaching staff made a double substitution: Davydenko and Kostiuk appeared instead of Smetana and Harabazhii. The Pitmen started the second half more actively, trying to get closer to the final third through fast flanks, while the Green-and-Whites focused on counter-attacks, giving the initiative to the Miners. In the 62nd minute, the Pitmen got their way: Petruk beat the opponent, ran into the penalty area and shot below the crossbar, making it 1-1. After that, Karpaty moved the ball away from their own goal and began to counter-attack, mostly creating a threat from set pieces. In the 83rd minute, Kokodeniak's delivery to the goal area struck Strilchuk's hand, which was pressed against his body. The referee awarded a penalty, but Bahlai made the save, keeping the score level. Three minutes later, Halonskyi prevented Burenko from going one-on-one by intercepting the ball, which led to a productive attack: Strilchuk, playing one-two with Dabo, passed to Tsukanov, who dribbled past two opponents in the penalty area and brought the Miners ahead, making it 2-1. In added time, the Green-and-Whites pushed forward and scored, but the referee called it offside.
