Shakhtar hosted Karpaty in Lviv in the 6th round of the UPL
Head coach of the Miners Marino Pusic chose the following starting line-up for the game: Riznyk played in the goal, Bondar and Franjic appeared in the centre of defence, Vinicius Tobias and Pedro Henrique played on the wings, Kryskiv, Bondarenko and Sudakov acted in the middle of the field, Zubkov and Kevin were the wingers, and Sikan had a central forward position.
Defender of Ukraine, soldier of the 1st Separate Marine Battalion Roman Kovaliuk took the first symbolic kick. He defended our country from the beginning of the full-scale invasion, held the defence of Mykolaiv and then was in the Avdiivka-bound direction where he was severely wounded. We thank the hero!
Spectacular first half and 4 goals by the Miners
The teams played open football from the opening minutes and created several dangerous moments already in the beginning. First, Riznyk saved the team after Miroshnichenko’s shot from the penalty area and Adamiuk’s follow-up, in response, Sudakov hit the far post from a tight angle, and Bondarenko’s shot was saved by the goalkeeper. With such game the goals did not take long. In the 21st minute, Kevin skilfully turned the ball to the right to Oleksandr Zubkov who beat the defender and hit the near top corner – 1-0. However, the Lviv team equalised the score in 4 minutes – Pidlepenets scored after the corner kick. But then the Orange-and-Blacks were the ones to score. In the 29th minute, Artem Bondarenko gave the Pitmen a lead: he played with Zubkov and shot, and the ball deflected off the defender into the goal – 2-1. Sudakov could have immediately exploited a success but shot over the crossbar. The Miners managed to secure a crushing victory toward the end of the first half. In the 39th minute, Kryskiv found Artem Bondarenko in the penalty area, the latter netted a brace with a shot into the right corner – 3-1. And in the 42nd minute, Danylo Sikan headed the ball accurately from the box line after Vinicius Tobias’ cross. 4-1 – a sure lead of Marino Pusic’s team before the break.
Game under control and Bondarenko’s third goal
From the beginning of the second half Shakhtar continued to play from a position of strength and create the moments near the goal of the Lviv team. Kemkin managed the long-range shot by Vinicius Tobias not without problems, Kevin’s shot went in centimetres from the post. And in the 65th minute, the ball hit the net of the nominal visiting team for the fifth time: Sudakov rolled the ball to the penalty area, Sikan cleverly missed it, and Artem Bondarenko kicked the ball over the goalkeeper and scored a hat-trick – 5-1. The game slowed down a bit only after that, and the coaching staff of the Miners revived the team with substitutions: Stepanenko and Pedrinho appeared on the field earlier, Eguinaldo and Traore came on after the goal, and Marlon Gomes appeared for the final stretch. However, the Lviv team found the strength to reduce the gap a little: in the 83rd minute, Chachua scored after the wing cross. Eguinaldo could have had the last word, but his goal was not counted due to offside.
5-2 – Shakhtar defeated Karpaty spectacularly and prepare for the start in the UEFA Champions League.
On September 18, Marino Pusic’s team will face Italian Bologna away in the first round of the league phase. The game will kick off at 19:45 Kyiv time.
