Shakhtar midfielder Oleksandr Zubkov about the victory over Karpaty (5-2), captain’s armband and expectations for the Champions League
– Oleksandr, Shakhtar claimed a confident victory over Karpaty. What will be your analysis of the game? Do you think the team succeeded in everything?
– First of all, it is very nice that we scored a lot, although we could have scored more. However, it is disappointing that we conceded twice, especially the first goal from the set piece, and it leads to some negative thoughts. We will definitely analyse these moments and will try to avoid conceding from set pieces in the future, because Mister always emphasises the importance of this aspect. It is very unfortunate that this happened.
– You opened the scoring in the match. Recall this episode: what do you think was key to converting this opportunity?
– To be honest, I do not really remember how the ball reached me, but Mister said that it is necessary to constantly change the direction of the attack from side to side. I got the ball, started dribbling, took it under right leg and shot.
– You appeared in the starting line-up for the first time after the injury. How do you feel? Does a past injury bother you?
– Thank God, the injury does not bother me anymore. I do not think that I am one hundred percent fit now, but I will try to get in shape as soon as possible. I received a very strong boost from leading the team with the captain’s armband, so I felt that I should do something extra on the field.
– You recalled a pleasant moment for you when you appeared on the field with the captain’s armband. What does it mean to you as a Shakhtar graduate and how did you feel at that moment?
– When they told me before the game that I will lead Shakhtar with the captain’s armband, I started to get more nervous. But after the starting whistle everything became normal.
– Perhaps Taras Stepanenko gave you some advice in the dressing room?
– No! I understand what a responsibility this is, and I am very glad that they entrusted me with the captain’s armband. I hope I lived up to expectations.
– Shakhtar will start their Champions League journey in just a few days. What are your expectations for the European Cup season?
– As always, our task is to try to win every match, so we will analyse the game and prepare for the meeting with Bologna.
– What personal tasks do you set for yourself for this season?
– To be honest, I never set personal tasks for myself. The main thing is that the team should win and everything is all right.
