Shakhtar hosted Obolon in the 7th round of the UPL

Head coach of the Orange-and-Blacks Marino Pusic made several changes in the line-up compared to the Champions League match which the team played last Wednesday: right-back Vinicius Tobias and centre-forward Lassina Traore came on instead of injured Yukhym Konoplia and Danylo Sikan, and Irakli Azarov acted in the left defender position from the opening minutes.

The first symbolic kick was taken by Ostap Koshla (call sign Sid), a veteran who defended the country in the 12th Azov Special Forces Brigade of the National Guard of Ukraine. The soldier was seriously wounded in the battles in the direction of Kreminna and is on a challenging path to recovery.

Host team’s advantage in game and score

As expected, the Miners started the match more actively, and if in the first quarter of an hour they went to scout, then Marino Pusic’s team began to intensify the situation and took the lead in the 17th minute: the corner kick on the left wing ended with a pass to the right to Vinicius Tobias who, with an amazing overhead pass while falling, kicked the ball almost on the penalty area line, from where Artem Bondarenko shot on the volley directly under the far post – 1-0. The Kyiv team almost did not attack in the first half, however, they had a moment when Hrusha shot over the target from outside the penalty area. The Orange-and-Blacks could have exploited a success closer to the break – first, Sudakov led Bondarenko to a shooting position, but the latter did not manage to beat the goalkeeper, and after the earned corner kick Kryskiv tried to turn it to the far post, but defender of the visiting team Dubko cleared the ball off the goal line.

Crushing result and Ghram’s debut

The second half started with dangerous moments created by the Pitmen: the defender blocked another one-touch shot by Bondarenko, and Zubkov’s signature kick from the right wing to the left corner was saved by Fedorivskyi. Obolon goalkeeper also managed a similar attempt by Bondarenko, but the insistence of the Miners had a result. In the 67th minute, Kryskiv shot from the left side, Sudakov hit the post while falling, and Lassina Traore was the first to pursue rebounds – 2-0. After that, the coaching staff of the Orange-and-Blacks made a series of substitutions, fielding Stepanenko, Newertton and Pedrinho. And in the 78th minute, the score became crushing: Traore rolled the ball in the centre of the penalty area to Heorhii Sudakov who hit the left bottom corner with a well-placed shot – 3-0. A moment later, Tunisian defender Alaa Ghram made his debut for Shakhtar in the official match replacing Vinicius Tobias, and 20-year-old midfielder Anton Hlushchenko appeared on the field a little later. The final result in the game was set in the 90th minute: Matviienko found Newertton on the left attacking wing with a wonderful pass from his half of the field, the Brazilian moved to the penalty area and put the ball under the right post. 4-0 – Shakhtar claimed a confident victory over Obolon.

Marino Pusic’s team will play their next match on Friday, September 27 against Veres. The game will be held in Rivne at the Avanhard stadium and will kick off at 18:00.
