Shakhtar midfielder Marlon Gomes shared his impressions of his brace in the match against LNZ and the Ukrainian weather

– Congratulations on the victory! Shakhtar fought for the important three points from the very first minutes today, so what would be your analysis of this game?
– Thank you for the congratulations! Yes, I think we played a decent match. Shakhtar demonstrated the style of play that we strive to practise, showed how we want to look on the football field: we met the opponent high, created many great moments. Perhaps we could have performed better at the finishing stage, but assessing the game as a whole, I can say that this is another important victory achieved with quality style.

– You had not scored a goal in the UPL in 16 matches before this. What does your performance today mean to you?
– I am really glad to score today. If we look at my low performance during this period in general, I played most of the matches as a holding midfielder, which does not contribute to high performance. But today I am happy I was able to take part in three of the team’s goals – I scored twice myself and also contributed to an own goal. Again, it is nice to score goals or provide assists, but for me the most important thing is team achievements, so I am ready to play where the coach sees me and where he thinks I will benefit the team. Everything else is secondary.

– We saw you leaving the field barefoot. Where did you lose your shoes?
– I already joked about it in an interview to your colleagues from UPL TV. But nothing serious, to tell the truth, I just felt a little pressure in my feet during the game, and this is a usual therapy that you need to undergo to feel better. By taking off my shoes, I was somewhat relieved of the pressure that I felt during the game. So nothing serious – just additional safety measures.

– And one last question, slightly unrelated to football: how do you Brazilians react to such cold and even snow in spring?
– It is really a bit cold. I am from Rio de Janeiro, where it is 30–40 degrees Celsius during this period, but I have been in Ukraine for over a year and have adapted to some extent. Although the last few days have been very cold, so it has been difficult, especially since some of us have never seen snow in our lives. But we have to get used to it – everyone who agreed to come here and perform and bring joy to the fans. Ukraine is a wonderful country. I like staying in Kyiv or Lviv, depending on where we have to be according to our calendar. I am very happy to be here and generally happy with any weather!
