Shakhtar women’s team faced Metalist 1925 on the Vyshcha League second stage MD7

The coaching staff of the Orange-and-Blacks picked the following line-up for the game against Metalist 1925: Karban took the place between the sticks, Kravchuk and Henyk appeared at centre-back, Sikorska and Mostova played as fullbacks, Myronenko, Chaika and Starukhina formed the midfield, Holovach and Zavidova took the offensive wings, with Vykaliuk leading the attack.

A conceded set piece goal and Myronenko’s sending off

The Kharkiv side took control of the ball from the first minutes and tried to put pressure on Karban's goal, threatening through flank crosses. In response, the Miners built their game on counterattacks and were the first to create a dangerous chance when Zavidova broke down the flank and fired a shot straight at the goalkeeper. Metalist 1925 responded with a successful set piece: Molodiuk shot over the wall from the central semicircle and found the corner of the goal, leaving Karban no chance to save it. Soon after, Basanska could have doubled the hosts' advantage, but after a series of rebounds in the Miners' penalty area, she sent the ball wide of the goal. The final minutes turned out to be rich in moments, but Hiryn and Molodiuk were unable to convert their chances. In added time, the Orange-and-Blacks were reduced to ten players: Myronenko received a second yellow card and was forced to leave the field.

Playing in defence

The second half began with the expected pressure from Metalist 1925 and a missed penalty: Molodiuk took the shot, but Karban made the save. The Kharkiv outfit played fluidly near the Miners' penalty area, testing their defence through the flanks. It’s worth noting that most of the attacks came down Hiryn’s flank, where she frequently pressured Mostova. However, the defender was well-supported by Holovach, who denied the winger any significant space. In the 64th minute, Shakhtar women's team head coach Roman Zaiev made a double substitution: Veherych and Kotovets appeared instead of Vykaliuk and Mostova. The hosts had the territorial advantage and eventually converted their chances: first, Apanashchenko finished off Hiryn's cross after a lasting attacking move, and later, Aleksanian won the challenge at the far post and headed the ball into the net. The coaching staff of the Orange-and-Blacks immediately reacted, fielding fresh players Liakhovych and Chendei. However, in the final minutes, the Kharkiv side struck Shakhtar's goal once more – this time from the penalty spot, which Hiryn converted, sealing the match.
