Shakhtar women’s team played against Seasters in the Vyshcha League round 4 in Shchaslyve

The coaching staff of the Orange-and-Blacks made one change to the starting line-up for the game against Seasters compared with the previous match against Polissia: Kuksa replaced Zavidova.

Active start from the Odesa side

The Odesa players immediately pressed the Miners back into their penalty area and posed threats mostly from corners, with their efforts resulting in an early goal: Ptytsyna was the first to pursue rebounds after a battle in the central area, waited for the right moment and struck from distance straight into the top corner. The Odesa-based outfit kept threatening Ustinova’s goal and in the 18th minute could have doubled their lead after a corner delivery, but Davydenko was just a few centimetres short of connecting at the far post. From the third ten-minute spell, Shakhtar footballers gradually levelled the play and began responding with attacks. Thus, in the 28th minute, Veherych scored with a precise strike from outside the penalty area to restore parity. Before the end of the first half, the opponents kept up the tempo and exchanged chances, yet the score remained unchanged.

Playing defensively

After the break, there were no changes in either line-up. Seasters had territorial advantage and tried to break into the final third, while the Orange-and-Blacks focused on defensive play, hoping for quick counterattacks after interceptions. In the 58th minute, the Odesa side went ahead: Ngandi burst into the penalty area from a corner routine and fired powerfully from close range past Ustinova. Soon after, the teams exchanged scoring chances: Ngandi’s blocked attempt to finish a low cross was answered by a sharp effort from Holovach, but the captain struck over the bar. The next Seasters attack proved effective: Davydenko doubled the team’s lead with a precise strike. Shakhtar coaching staff reacted swiftly with a double substitution, as Lutsan and Maslovska replaced Myronenko and Veherych. Late in the game, Maiborodina had a chance when she cut inside from the wing and struck powerfully from distance straight into the crossbar.

1-3 – Shakhtar women’s team suffered a home defeat to Seasters. Roman Zaiev’s side will play their next league match after a two-week break linked to international fixtures. On Sunday, September 7, Shakhtar will face Ladomyr at the Olimp Stadium in Volodymyr.
