Shakhtar women’s team faced Vorskla Poltava away in the final match of the year

Head coach of the Orange-and-Blacks Roman Zaiev named the following starting line-up: Ustinova took the place between the sticks, Kotovets and Lutsan operated as fullbacks, Henyk and Kravchuk appeared at centre-back, Starukhina, Myronenko and Sikorska formed the midfield, Vukaliuk and Holovach took the attacking wings, with Chaika spearheading the attack.

Ustinova’s saves and defensive play

The home team came out strong from the first minutes, threatening Ustinova’s goal mostly from set pieces. In the 9th minute, the scoring was opened: Kotiash took advantage of Chaika’s mistake, picked up the ball, and upon reaching the penalty area, played a one-two with Kalinina and Voronina, who crossed to Roksolana Kravchuk in the box for the finish. It took Vorskla only five minutes to double their lead: Kotiash delivered a cross from the right flank to the far post to Rodionova, who laid the ball off accurately to Roksolana Kravchuk, and she finished the attack with a first-time shot.
The Miners were under constant pressure from their opponents, making it difficult to move the ball forward and approach the final third. Meanwhile, Vorskla, controlling possession on Shakhtar’s half, dictated the pace, combined effectively and pressed Ustinova’s goal, but the goalkeeper’s saves prevented the opponents from increasing their lead.

Attempt to change the situation

The second half began with positional battles and attempts by the Miners to reach Samson’s goal. The home team weathered the pause and responded with an attack, managing to increase their lead after Kalinina’s half-turned shot. After that, Shakhtar briefly gained territorial advantage and had a chance to reduce the deficit following a combination play finished by Chaika’s strike from the central semicircle in the 64th minute, but the home team was saved by the post. Soon after, Shakhtar coach Roman Zaiev made a triple substitution, bringing on Shevtsova, Liakhovych and Chendei. In the closing minutes, the Orange-and-Blacks, pressing high, tried to force Vorskla’s defenders into mistakes to launch potentially dangerous attacks, but the Poltava side acted in an organised manner and kept their goal intact.

0-3 – Shakhtar women’s team lost to Vorskla and finished the year with 23 points, remaining among the top five teams in the championship.
