On February 16, Shakhtar held the test match against Georgian Dila
Head coach of the Miners Marino Pusic chose the following starting line-up for the final friendly match of the winter training camp: Fesiun took a place between the sticks, Bondar and Matviienko appeared in the centre of defence, Vinicius Tobias and Azarov played on the defensive wings, Hlushchenko, Bondarenko and Marlon Gomes, who took the symbolic number 6, acted in the middle of the field, Shved and Kevin (the Brazilian also changed his number to 11) were the wingers, with newcomer Kaua Elias appearing at the helm again.
Constant pressure and two crossbars, but no goals before the break
The Orange-and-Blacks acted as leaders from the opening minutes and played mostly in the opponent’s half of the field. Already at the beginning of the game, the Pitmen created a great moment: Kevin made a powerful shot from the penalty area line, but the ball hit the crossbar. The champions of Ukraine continued to look for ways to approach the goal of the Georgians, but the long combinations lacked a final pass or shot. There was a forced substitution in the middle of the half when Shved got injured and was replaced by Newertton. After that, the Miners had one more chance: Azarov made a pass from the left wing to the centre of the penalty area, and Kevin caught the ball brilliantly and scored on the volley – the opponent was saved by the crossbar again. Almost immediately, Newertton had a good chance – he missed the target from the corner of the goalmouth. They even managed to score a few minutes before the break (Kaua Elias turned Newertton’s cross right home) – the referee disallowed the goal due to offside.
Pedro Henrique’s incredible shot, Traore’s goal and Eguinaldo’s return
At the beginning of the second half, the coaching staff of Shakhtar made several substitutions, fielding Tvardovskyi, Pedro Henrique, Nazaryna and Traore. The pattern of the game did not change – the Pitmen went forward with great strength, the opponent focused on defence. However, this time the pressure of the Orange-and-Blacks quickly led to a result. If Nazaryna’s long-range shot was turned for a corner by the goalkeeper of the Georgians, then in the 58th minute, after a corner kick, Pedro Henrique decided to shoot from 30 metres, and the ball flew into the net almost in the centre of the goal following a difficult trajectory for the goalkeeper – 1-0. Soon, two more fresh footballers – Konoplia and Eguinaldo – entered the game. And already in the 64th minute, the Brazilian provided an assist: after his cross from the right wing, Lassina Traore stopped the ball in the centre of the penalty area, tricked two defenders and easily beat the goalkeeper – 2-0. Konoplia could have also scored a goal, but, trying to turn Pedro Henrique’s cross home, Yukhym did not hit the ball properly. Eguinaldo had a chance to celebrate his return to the field, but the goalkeeper of the Georgian team saved the Brazilian’s dangerous shot.
2-0 – Shakhtar defeated Dila in the sixth and last friendly match at the training camp in Turkey. Next week, Marino Pusic’s team will continue to prepare for the resumption of the season.
As a reminder, Shakhtar will host Livyi Bereh in the 18th round of the UPL on February 24. The game will take place at the Arena Lviv and kick off at 18:00.
