Shakhtar women’s team faced Mariupol in the fourth round of the friendly tournament dedicated to the memory of Viktoriia Chornovil
Shakhtar women’s team head coach Roman Zaiev has selected the following line-up for the game against Mariupol: Karban took place between the sticks, Zaborovets and Henyk played as fullbacks, Sikorska and Kravchuk appeared as fullbacks, Veherych, Starukhina and Myronenko operated in midfield, Vykaliuk and Mostova acted as wingers, with Chaika spearheading the attack.
Active start and dominance
The Miners took the ball under their control from the opening minutes and began to threaten the opponents' goal. Shakhtar quickly orchestrated a fluid attack on the right flank in the 6th minute, culminating in an accurate shot by Veherych – 1-0. The opponents tried to respond with their own chances, but the Orange-and-Blacks successfully blocked their attempts. In the 21st minute, Shakhtar doubled the score as Chaika converted a one-on-one situation with the goalkeeper. Within a minute, the striker had a chance to score a brace, but her powerful shot hit the crossbar. The Orange-and-Blacks continued to play fluidly near the Mariupol’s penalty area, forcing the opponents to foul in order to neutralize potential threats. This led to another goal: Mostova deceived the goalkeeper with a precise free kick, increasing the Miners’ advantage. However, within five minutes, Mariupol managed to push the game away from their own goal and reduce the gap after high pressure and a mistake from Karban – 3-1. Shakhtar then increased their pace, scoring through the shots from Vykaliuk and Chaika before the end of the first half.
Rotation and playing on top
After the break, Shakhtar women's team coaching staff conducted an extensive rotation, fielding forward Chendei, midfielders Liakhovych, Maslovska and Shevtsova, as well as defenders Lutsan, Kotovets and Pipchenko. In the second half of the game, the general pattern remained unchanged. In the 47th minute, Vykaliuk received the ball in the central circle, beat several opponents and, closing in on the goalkeeper, fired a shot into the corner to make it 6-1. The Miners controlled the game more, made decisions faster and shattered the opponent's defence. In the 72nd minute, the Orange-and-Blacks scored again following a swift attack down the left flank and a brilliant backheel from Chendei to Myronenko, who finished it off. Four minutes later, Veherych netted another goal – she distracted the opponents, found a shooting position and produced a powerfully shot past the goalkeeper. Vykaliuk sealed the win in the final minute: being unmarked after a series of bounces, she seized the opportunity and wrapped up the match with a well-aimed shot.
9-1 – Shakhtar women’s team claimed a crushing victory against Mariupol. Roman Zaiev’s side will play their next game against Kolos Kovalivka in a week, on February 26.
