Three years of full-scale war: Rinat Akhmetov allocated UAH 11.3 billion to support the Armed Forces and civilians
SCM businesses, the Rinat Akhmetov Foundation, and FC Shakhtar have collectively provided UAH 11.3 billion (USD 315 million) to aid the country, its military, and civilians during the 36 months of the full-scale invasion.
The main areas of assistance: support for the Armed Forces of Ukraine, humanitarian aid for civilians and communities, support for charitable and advocacy projects, comprehensive support for Mariupol’s defenders.
In addition to systemic aid, SCM and its enterprises continue to diligently and systematically pay taxes to budgets at all levels to promote and support Ukraine’s economic stability. Since the beginning of the full-scale war, over UAH 214 billion (nearly USD 6 billion) in taxes have been paid.
Aid to the Ukrainian defenders is implemented as a part of the Rinat Akhmetov's Steel Front military project. Military units nationwide receive ammunition, vehicles, armoured personnel carriers, ambulances for military medics, drones, thermal imagers, sights, radios, cameras, clothing and footwear, medical kits, haemostatic tourniquets and other necessary items through the Steel Front. In particular, Metinvest designed and delivered more than 600 steel dugouts for frontline soldiers. The metallurgical group also provides steel for vehicle armour, including for Abrams and Leopard tanks, Patriot system shields, and produces armour for bulletproof vests.
Since the beginning of the full-scale Russian invasion, the DTEK has continuously provided support and humanitarian aid to the Armed Forces of Ukraine. One of the key areas is advocacy work: DTEK and Oleksandr Usyk launched the joint Fight for Light campaign. The campaign achieved its goal: drawing global attention to Ukraine’s energy system’s critical state due to Russian missile attacks. As a result, for the first time, a private Ukrainian company secured international partner funding to protect and restore the country’s energy infrastructure. The European Commission and the US Government are providing DTEK with EUR 107 million to ensure power supply for the Ukrainian people during the war.
Additionally, Rinat Akhmetov extended the Heart of Azovstal project to support Mariupol’s defenders into 2025 and increased its funding to UAH 1.6 billion. Defenders and their families receive aid through seven programmes. In particular, the Home programme was launched in 2023, providing housing for defenders with Group I and II disabilities. The plan for 2025 includes providing 50 apartments to the Mariupol’s defenders. Over three years, 250 defenders will receive homes. The project also implements the Future programme 24 – comprehensive support for adaptation to civilian life and personal fulfilment.
Rinat Akhmetov's businesses and projects provide regular humanitarian assistance to civilians, primarily in the front-line and liberated areas. People receive food, clothing, household items, medicines, hygiene products, etc. In cities where SCM operates, care is taking of shelters, hospitals, sources of light and water, etc. Assistance is also provided to the local governments and utility services.
The Rinat Akhmetov Foundation has sent over 700 thousand units of medicine units since the beginning of the war and more than 13 million food packages since 2014. It has launched new projects to assist in the rehabilitation of children and adults affected by shelling. It has also helped equip dormitories for Mariupol residents in Dnipro.
Support for athletes, displaced persons, Ukrainian defence forces, and residents of war-affected regions is also provided by FC Shakhtar. The club also organised and covered all expenses for treatment of Azovstal defender, marine Mykhailo Dianov, in the United States. It took care of organizing treatment and rehabilitation of severely injured Avdiivka fighter Vitalii Shumei in Barcelona, as well as fighter and Shakhtar fan Yevhen Larchenko in Israel. It is helping with the rehabilitation of the brother of one of its players, the Armed Forces of Ukraine fighter Bohdan Kush. The club will allocated UAH 22 million of revenue from the friendly match against Tottenham to support and aid projects for Ukrainians affected by the war. Additionally, in 2024, the club allocated over UAH 32.5 million to assist the military, civilians and children.
