Shakhtar Stalevi team participated in the first-ever amputee football tournament within the League of the Mighty project
On January 11–12, the Ukrainian Association of Football held the Winter Cup, the first-ever amputee football tournament in Ukraine, within the League of the Mighty project in Koncha-Zaspa near Kyiv.
The League of the Mighty project was launched in order to engage amputees and people with limb impairment in football. The main goal is to support the soldiers and to promote social and sports rehabilitation of those who suffered serious injuries, in particular during the war.

– First of all, I want to express gratitude to the Armed Forces of Ukraine, to all the boys and girls who defend our country and give us the opportunity to live and hold tournaments. Most of the participants are soldiers who were injured while defending the country. I want to thank you for your courage. This tournament is important because it gives people with injuries the opportunity for physical and emotional rehabilitation. I see great potential, so the Ukrainian Association of Football will continue to develop amputee football. This is one of the priority directions of the social projects of the UAF, and we will make sure to help our people.
Five amputee football teams from Lviv, Kyiv and Cherkasy, AMP FC Kyiv, MSC Dnipro, Pokrova AMP, Pokrova AMP-2 and Shakhtar Stalevi, competed in the League of the Mighty Winter Cup for two days. The matches were held according to the adapted amputee football rules that take into account physical characteristics of athletes.
Shakhtar Stalevi team played four matches and got their first experience of performances at the official level. The results of the meetings:

MD 2. AMP FC Kyiv 2-0 Shakhtar Stalevi
MD 3. Shakhtar Stalevi 1-1 Pokrova AMP

– Shakhtar Stalevi show competitive, interesting and attacking football. The tournament had a very positive impact on the team, and it is noticeable that they have improved compared to the training camp, so we move with positive dynamics. The competition was held at a high level, and such events are very important for the promotion of amputee football in Ukraine. The team will have a rest, after which they will return to the training regime. We plan to play several friendly matches to maintain optimal shape and prepare for the upcoming tournaments.
The Winter Cup was an important step in the development of amputee football in Ukraine and showed that sport can unite and help in rehabilitation. The Ukrainian Association of Football plans to make the competition regular to give teams more opportunities for development and support.
