On January 15, Shakhtar played the test match against Bulgarian CSKA Sofia in Turkey
Head coach of the Miners Marino Pusic chose the following starting line-up for the first friendly game of the matchday: Fesiun played in the goal, Drozd (on the right), Ghram and Faryna (in the centre), Pedro Henrique (on the left) formed the defensive line, Stepanenko, Bondarenko, Hlushchenko and Newertton appeared in the middle of the field, with Sikan and Traore playing at the helm.
No goals before the break
Almost the entire first half passed in a struggle, but without particularly dangerous moments. The teams tried to build attacks from their own penalty areas, but combination moves collapsed on the approaches to the opponent’s goal and remained unfinished. The Orange-and-Blacks possessed the ball more, destabilised the opponent’s defence with attacks through different wings – the left edge with Pedro Henrique and Newertton was particularly active. However, the first intense episode occurred after the long-range shot from Shakhtar captain Taras Stepanenko – the ball flew past the left post of the goal. Closer to the break, Sikan went one on one with the Sofia-based team goalkeeper after a quick vertical attack, but the referee flagged the Ukrainian forward for offside.
Tsukanov scored the team’s first and winning goal at the training camp
During the break, the coaching staff of Shakhtar made two substitutions, fielding Nazaryna and Tsukanov. The second half started with a game initiative of the Miners, who tried to act aggressively in the opponent’s part of the field, press the rivals and intensify the situation near the goal of CSKA, but several crosses to the penalty area did not lead to danger. The Bulgarians gradually levelled the game, and the main action moved to the centre of the field again for a while. Shved came on in the middle of the half, and he almost immediately started a beautiful multi-move combination, which ended with Stepanenko’s shot from the penalty area – the goalkeeper of the Sofia-based team pulled the ball from the right bottom corner and saved his team. In response, Iliev had a great chance, but he missed Fesiun’s goal from the centre of the penalty area. And yet, the champions of Ukraine managed to score first in this match, and the goal was organised by three substitutes: in the 75th minute, Nazaryna took the ball and passed to Shved on the right wing, the latter entered the penalty area, destabilised the defenders with feints and made a cross to the 11-metre mark, from where Viktor Tsukanov hit the net of the Bulgarian team. This goal remained the only one until the very end of the meeting. 1-0 – Shakhtar claimed a victory over CSKA Sofia in the first friendly of this day.
Today, Marino Pusic’s team have another test match against Bulgarian champions Ludogorets. The game will kick off at 16:00 Kyiv time.
