Head coach of Shakhtar women’s team Roman Zaiev talked about the atmosphere in the team, personnel situation and team’s preparation for the second part of the season
– Shakhtar resumed their training process after the winter break. What is the atmosphere in the team and in what physical condition did the team return to training?
– Considering the fact that we held the first preparatory cycle back in December, the girls had the opportunity to go on vacation for the New Year holidays, and then the team, as usual, returned in a good mood and with great ambitions. Shakhtar have to show a decent game, and we strive for that, so we set the appropriate tasks for ourselves.
– What is the main task during the first training camp? Can we assume that the workloads will only increase?
– Of course! We went through the basic procedures, including a routine medical examination and a gas analyser test to check the fitness shape of the girls. In fact, we are already starting the functional training necessary to lay the foundation for the second stage of the championship.
– What is the personnel situation after the break?
– Except for Liubov Mokhnach, who got injured at the end of the year and is recovering now, all girls are working as usual.
– Fans chose Lidiia Zaborovets as the Women’s Player of the Year in Shakhtar twice in a row. What can you say about her value to the team?
– Lidiia Zaborovets is a talented footballer, and Shakhtar hopes that she will stay with the team and continue making progress as a player, and also as a candidate for the national team. We understand that Lidiia is already the captain of the Ukraine U19 women’s national team and has great feedback, so we hope she will be with Shakhtar for a long time.
– Do you already have planned friendlies during the winter pre-season?
– Yes, within the tournament which will be held by the Women's Football Association. On January 29, the competition between eight teams will begin, where we will participate and consider these matches as preparation for the second part of the championship. At the beginning of February, they plan to hold the cup tournament for the Vyshcha League teams, in which we will also take part.
