Shakhtar women’s team met with Obolon in the first match of 2025

Shakhtar women's team began their participation in a friendly tournament dedicated to the memory of Viktoriia Kotliarova (Chornovil), who died as a result of a rocket attack on Kyiv in late December 2023, with a match against the capital-based Obolon. According to the regulations, the Miners will compete in a single stage against seven teams from the Vyshcha and First Leagues of the Ukrainian Championship

The coaching staff chose the usual 3-5-2 formation and the following starting eleven for the match against Obolon: Ustinova took a place between the sticks, Henyk, Kravchuk and Sikorska played as defenders, Starukhina, Myronenko, Zavidova, Mostova and Holovach appeared in midfield, with Chaika and Vykaliuk acting as forwards.

Minimum lead at halftime

The starting part saw fighting for the initiative without any of the teams having a significant advantage. The Brewers were mainly threatening from the flanks, while the Miners were attacking positionally. The first truly dangerous opportunity was created by Holovach, when, after intercepting the ball near the central semicircle, she attempted a shot toward the near corner, however the captain was just centimetres short of opening the score. The Orange-and-Blacks gradually increased the pressure and spent more time possessing the ball in the opposing half. Soon, the Miners managed to convert their advantage. In the 24th minute, Starukhina broke free and headed Mostova's corner kick, making it 1:0. Until the end of the half, the opponents took turns possessing the ball mainly in the midfield and did not create any danger near each other's goals.

Cautious play with few chances

In the second half of the match, the coaching staff of Shakhtar women's team completely changed the line-up so that all the players would get playing time and the necessary workload. The Miners started attacking Tsykalenko's goal and could have doubled their lead in the 48th minute when Chendei shot over the crossbar from close range. Soon, the Brewers squandered a great opportunity to equalize when Diatel missed a penalty awarded for a foul on Liakhovych in the box. The teams played mostly cautious football, did not force events and tried to escalate through shots from outside the penalty area. At the end of the match, the hosts stepped up and conducted two dangerous attacks: Zaborovets hit the crossbar and Veherych failed to convert a one-on-one opportunity at the end. 1-0 – Shakhtar women’s team claimed a narrow win over Obolon.

Next week, on February 5, The Miners will face Ateks-DYuSSh-16 within the tournament dedicated to the memory of Viktoriia Kotliarova (Chornovil), as well as the winners of the Obolon vs Polissia pair in the Winter Cup clash.
