Shakhtar women’s team head coach Roman Zaiev reflects on the game against Obolon, the training process and upcoming plans
– Shakhtar women's team had the first match in 2025. How informative was the match against Obolon?
– To be honest, we expected the game to be more dynamic, but due to certain factors, perhaps the weather conditions, it turned out to be somewhat chaotic and unspectacular. Given that this was the first game of the new year, of course, the result is not the main thing, but the victory gave a psychological boost in confidence.
– During the match, you used two squads to give everyone playing time. Are you satisfied with the result and the performance?
– Currently, the coaching staff has no comments on the girls, they are trying to do everything we offer. In the game against Obolon, some players performed better than others, and some perhaps not as well as we would have liked. However, I have no complaints about their dedication.
– This week, the team began the second cycle of the training camp. How is the training mode currently structured and what aspects do you focus on the most?
– We are starting the second period of the preparatory cycle, so now we are paying more attention to decision-making speed and advancing the ball. Test matches within the friendly tournaments during the pre-season provide an opportunity to see the results of the work.
– Are you managing to fulfil what you have planned?
– In terms of organization, everything is fine. Currently, the instructions and plans that we have in mind are being fully implemented.
– What is known about the team's immediate plans?
– We continue to work in a weekly cycle and will hold two more test matches in a week.
