Shakhtar women's team are preparing for their first pre-season friendly – against the Free Agents team
On Thursday, July 17, Shakhtar’s women’s team held another training session at the Academy facility in Shchaslyve.
They began with running drills and interval training focused on building endurance. Outfield players then moved on to ball work, while the goalkeepers, under the guidance of Dmytro Shutkov, followed a separate programme, refining core catching techniques. The main part of the session was dedicated to developing attacking play. The work concluded with a small-sided game within a limited part of the pitch with various tactical tasks.

– In the first weeks after the break, the training process was introductory. As we moved to double sessions, the emphasis shifted towards ball work and tactical drills.
– This Saturday, Shakhtar will play their first pre-season friendly – against the Free Agents team. How important are friendly matches at the camp?
– They’re very important, as it’s crucial to be in optimal shape by the start of the season. I hope we’ll have a good game as we’ve been working hard. I believe we’ll be able to put our plans into action.
– Two weeks remain until the start of the new Vyshcha League season. What are your goals and expectations?
– Each season, the team set high goals, but the primary task is to finish in the top five. Speaking about the season as a whole, of course, we aim to fight for the top spots. I’m confident everyone will give their all to achieve that. It’s important to start the season well and move from game to game with a positive mindset and strong results.
This Saturday, July 19, Roman Zaiev’s side will play their first pre-season friendly against the Free Agents team. The meeting at the Bannikov Stadium kicks off at 11:30.
