Shakhtar assistant head coach Sinan Sarıkurt reflects on his responsibilities, the training process and ambitions
– Could you introduce yourself and tell us about your duties at Shakhtar?
– My name is Sinan Sarıkurt. I’m a graduate of the Galatasaray Academy and I work at Shakhtar as an assistant head coach – that’s it.
– How do you feel at Shakhtar and what are your impressions of the team?
– I’m very glad to be part of Shakhtar. Of course, we carried out thorough analysis before arriving. Above all, there’s a great atmosphere here, and the players are special, very talented and full of potential. What can we add to take them to the next level? Naturally, that’s exactly what we came here for and we hope to have a very successful season.
– Tell us about your work with the team: your view of the training process, matches and progress.
– As you know, our training approach is quite intensive. At the start of the season, the team will face serious workloads under the guidance of Arda Turan. The footballers might complain, but this method has been delivering results for two years now. At Eyüpspor, we won the First League and later competed in the upper half of the Super Lig table with the same team. I act with aggression on the pitch – both tactically and technically. I have the necessary energy and character and I want to pass that on to the players so they feel the same way I do.
– What are your ambitions and goals with Shakhtar?
– Our goals are very big. We have a match today and we want to perform well to advance to the next round. Our aim is to regain what was lost, and of course, that means the league title. That’s very important to us, but after domestic success, it’s equally important to reach new heights in Europe, step by step. Shakhtar is a club that has been renowned on the European stage for years. We’re fully aware of that and working accordingly.
