On July 19, Shakhtar women's team played a friendly against the Free Agents team as part of their preparations for the new season
The encounter was played in an unusual format – 3 halves of 30 minutes each. Head coach of the Orange-and-Blacks Roman Zaiev fielded the following starting line-up: Ustinova was in goal, Lutsan and Kravchuk played as centre-backs, Sikorska and Pipchenko operating on the defensive flanks, Zavidova, Veherych, Holovach and Kotovets appeared in midfield, with Vykaliuk and Chaika leading the line.
The Miners started actively: Holovach, from a central area, delivered a pass that sliced through the opponents’ defence and sent Vykaliuk one-on-one – the goalkeeper reacted to the shot. Five minutes later, Vykaliuk beat the keeper and fired towards an empty net – a defender made a last-ditch sliding clearance off the line. Midway through the half, the playing advantage was converted into a quick brace by Chaika, who first finished off a low cross inside the box, and then left the keeper with no chance with a superb strike. Closer to the end of the 30-minute period, the initiative was reinforced by goals from Vykaliuk and Kotovets.
After the break, Shakhtar coaching staff fielded Chendei, Liakhovych, Shevtsova, Balatska and Maslovska. The pattern of the game remained unchanged, with the Miners continuing to control possession near the opponents’ penalty area, which led to another goal: Chendei used her body to shield the ball, held off her marker and calmly found the net. Soon after, Shevtsova could have extended the lead – just over the bar. The opponents then seized the initiative and came close from a corner – Karban played flawlessly off the line.
In the final third, the coaching staff of the Miners made further substitutions, and Chendei immediately netted a quick goal. The opponents tried to create potentially dangerous chances, but the Orange-and-Blacks’ defence stayed organised and denied them any real access to Karban’s goal, while Roman Zaiev’s side kept pressing forward. Towards the end of the match, the tempo dropped slightly and there were no more danger.
Shakhtar women’s team confidently defeated the Free Agents XI in their first friendly. Two more friendlies are scheduled for next week in Shchaslyve: July 23 – against Seasters Odesa, July 26 – against Vorskla Poltava.
