Introducing the players to the head coach and his assistants
Shakhtar have started their summer training camp in Slovenia. The Miners arrived in Brdo the day before, and on Thursday evening new head coach Arda Turan and his assistants had their first meeting with the team. The club’s Sporting Director, Darijo Srna, introduced the coaching staff and, to the applause of the players, presented Turan with a symbolic shirt with number 39 – this is the number of the Turkish specialist in the Pitmen’s history of coaches.

– Today I want to introduce you to the new head coach of Shakhtar – this is Mister Arda Turan. He is a man who was a great football player, who won many trophies. I am sure we made the right choice. We will all help him, and I believe that he will help us.
Then the new head coach of the Orange-and-Blacks himself addressed the players with an inspiring speech. Arda Turan presented all the members of his coaching staff and emphasised that the team is one family, that he believes in the potential of every Shakhtar player and will give everyone the opportunity to prove themselves. The head coach sees winning the championship title as the main goal of the season.

– I am really very happy. It is very important for me. I am excited because it is a great chance. I believe in your potential – you are really very good players. War changes everything. I am here for my players. We are like one family. I am a sincere person, I always talk face-to-face. If you are wrong, we can discuss it together. I never gossip behind your back. That is the first rule. And I never promise anything for the sake of it. Every game is special, every game is different. We will analyse different stories, but I promise: every player will make 20–25 appearances during the season. If everyone gives their all, then after the season they will be able to say: “We are the champions.” We can win, but I want to see one family on the field, everyone together. If you want to be at the top, we will live every moment and win. Guys, I am your closest friend. Off the field we can talk about everything: the game, tactics, life. We will discuss everything. But we will suffer every minute on the field. And tomorrow we will get to work. We will give it our all on the field, we will work as best as we can, we will do our best during training sessions. The Miners will hold their first training session under the guidance of Arda Turan this evening, officially kicking off their programme to prepare for the new season and UEFA Europa League qualifiers.
