Shakhtar held a test match against Karpaty Lviv on March 12
The teams played a UPL match the day before, and today the coaches gave playing time to those who were on the bench yesterday. The Miners' starting line-up featured two winter newcomers – central defender Diego Arroyo and forward Kaua Elias, who formed an attacking duo with Traore. Pedro Henrique played as a right winger, with Alaa Gram leading the Pitmen onto the field wearing the captain's armband.
The opponents started it without intelligence, and in the 1st minute, the hosts opened the scoring: Pidlepenets moved from the right flank into the penalty area and found the net close to the far post. Soon, the Lviv side could have doubled their lead when Fedor went one-on-one with Fesiun, but the Orange-and-Blacks' goalkeeper made a great save. Marino Pusic's men seized the initiative and quickly equalized: in the 12th minute, Tsukanov passed from the right corner to the near post, where Anton Hlushchenko stopped the ball and slotted it into the left corner, making it 1-1. In the middle of the half, the pace of the game slowed a bit, and the next burst of activity came closer to the break. At first, Pidlepenets managed to unexpectedly shot from tight angle, but Fesiun parried his attempt. In response, Pedro Henrique played a gorgeous vertical pass to send Newerton one-on-one, but he shot wide of the goal. The Brazilian winger tried his luck from distance twice more, but both times his efforts sailed over the crossbar.
The second half started with Shakhtar's attacks: Hlushchenko's shot from near the edge of the box was handled by Kemkin, and Pedro Henrique's attempt was blocked by the Lviv defender. Another dangerous chance came after a solo run by Hlushchenko, who beat two opponents and fired a low shot from 10 metres. However, the goalkeeper saved the hosts, kicking the ball away. Tsukanov could have scored, but the ball after his powerful long-ranger hit the left post. Karpaty tried to respond with their own attempt from a distance, but Fedor missed the target. In another instance, Tvardovskyi came to the rescue after Fabiano's shot. And yet, it was the Miners who managed to score the winning goal: in the 82nd minute, Hlushchenko’s pass with the outside of his foot ends up at Kaua Elias, who elegantly lobbed the ball over the goalkeeper into the far corner, making it 1-2. Abramchuk had a chance to save the hosts from defeat in the last minutes, as he found himself in the one-on-one situation with Pitmen's goalkeeper, but Tvardovskyi managed to gather the ball at the opponent's feet.
2-1 – Shakhtar claimed a comeback win in the friendly against Karpaty.
We remind you that there will be an international break in club football, after which the Miners will return with an away UPL clash with the capital-based Obolon on March 29. The game in Kyiv kicks off at 15:30.
