Shakhtar women's team faced Kolos away on the Vyshcha League second stage MD1

Shakhtar women’s team head coach Roman Zaiev has selected the following line-up: Ustinova took the place between the sticks, Henyk and Kravchuk appeared at centre-back, Mostova and Sikorska operated as fullbacks, Myronenko, Starukhina and Chaika formed the midfield, Holovach and Vykaliuk played in flanks of the attacking line, with Veherych leading the attack as central forward.

The outcome of the match was decided in the first half

The Kovalivka-based side took control of the ball from the beginning and looked for ways to threaten Ustinova's goal using the flanks, whereas Shakhtar defended and counterattacked in a disciplined manner. The Miners were the first to create a truly dangerous chance: Holovach quickly broke free down the left flank and crossed to Vykaliuk, but the winger failed to control the ball properly, so no shot followed. The hosts responded in the 12th minute, when Tian shot into the near corner; yet, Ustinova saved. Kolos continued to have a territorial advantage and, playing fluidly near the Orange-and-Blacks’ penalty area, eventually converted their chances into goals. First, after a midfield turnover, Tian used her opportunity. Three minutes later, Fedorenko doubled the lead by converting a one-on-one situation. Towards the end of the first half, the Miners pushed the game away from their own goal and tried to reduce the gap, but the hosts took advantage of open spaces and orchestrated a well-executed attack, which ended with a brace from Tian.

Toe-to-toe

The team started the second half without substitutions. Kolos moved more actively with the ball and spent most of the time in the half of the pitch of the Orange-and-Blacks. In the 52nd minute, Kohut cut inside from the flank to the semicircle and shot, but the ball sailed over the crossbar. The hosts did not force events and played according to the score, while the visitors created dangerous chances, but the attempts from Veherych and Holovach failed to find the target. Later, Shakhtar women’s team head coach refreshed the attacking flanks and midfield, fielding Zavidova, Chendei and Liakhovych. The Miners increased their tempo and began to threaten Keliushyk’s goal more frequently after interceptions; however, Kolos withstood the pressure from the Orange-and-Blacks, and the score remained unchanged.

Roman Zaiev’s side will play the next game against Metalist 1925 Kharkiv on Saturday, March 22. The match in Shchaslyve kicks off at 12:00, with a live stream available on Shakhtar’s official YouTube channel.
