Shakhtar women's team hosted Metalist 1925 in Shchaslyve on the Vyshcha League second stage MD2
Head coach of Shakhtar women's team Roman Zaiev made two changes in the starting line-up in the match against Metalist 1925 compared to the previous game against Kolos: Kotovets replaced defender Mostova, and Zavidova took Vykaliuk's position.
Successful defensive play
The opponents started the match actively and exchanged dangerous moments already in the opening stages: the Yellow-and-Blues responded to a blocked shot by Holovach with a chance from Khimych. The moments of the Kharkiv-based team were more intense, and in the 7th minute Ustinova managed Hiryn's shot under the crossbar with a great save, turning the ball for a corner. The visiting team increased the pressure, and in the 21st minute Molodiuk was centimetres away from turning Aleksanyian's wing cross home, and two minutes later Apanashchenko shot into the goalkeeper on the volley from the central semi-circle. The pace of the game then slowed down somewhat: Metalist 1925 focused on moving the ball forward quickly through wing throw-ins, while Shakhtar tried to counterattack and avoid the pressure using short passes. Closer to the end of the half, Molodiuk had a good chance, shooting from behind the defender into the corner of the goal.
Playing under pressure
The second half began with a goal-scoring opportunity from Metalist 1925: Khimych hit the post, pursuing rebounds outside the penalty area. The Orange-and-Blacks responded a minute later with a quick attack by Holovach, who passed the ball accurately to Zavidova for a shot, but Bondarchuk saved it. In the 63rd minute, Shakhtar's coaching staff made a substitution: Vykaliuk came on instead of Veherych. Meanwhile, the pressure of the Yellow-and-Blues was becoming more noticeable, and in the 68th minute, Olkhova opened the scoring, winning a fight in the air after a corner kick. Shortly after that, the Kharkiv-based team doubled their advantage thanks to Khimych's efforts. Shakhtar tried to push the game away from their own net and reach Bondarchuk's goal, but in the 79th minute Metalist 1925, using free space, organised a quick attack, which was again effectively completed by Khimych. At the end of the match, Shevchuk set the final score, scoring another goal.
