Shakhtar U19 lost to their Rukh Lviv counterparts away in the final game of the season

The coaching staff of the Orange-and-Blacks picked the following line-up for the game against Rukh U19: Bahlai took the place between the sticks, Strilchuk and Reshetnikov appeared as fullbacks, Dankovskyi and Mylokost acted at centre-back, Davydenko, Smetana and Balakai formed the midfield, Petruk and Zubrii were deployed as wingers, with Lomaha taking the central forward position.

No goals scored, three conceded

The opening minutes were spent in the Miners’ half, as the team faced intense high pressing from the Yellow-and-Blacks and nearly conceded following a mistake near their own penalty area: Pankivskyi aimed for the far corner but lacked accuracy. Closer to the middle of the half, the game shifted into a mutual struggle, with frequent fouls disrupting the rhythm. The visitors attempted to build attacks through quick wing play followed by crosses or passes to the centre, but failed to create any truly dangerous chances. The hosts, on the other hand, converted their opportunity: in the 30th minute, Dorosh advanced towards Bahlai’s goal, tricked Mylokost and finished clinically. Just five minutes later, the Yellow-and-Blacks doubled their lead as Yakhontov struck home. Rukh U19 continued to attack and Denysov volleyed past Bahlai to make it 3-0.

Effort to equalise

After the break, Shakhtar U19’s coaching staff made a triple substitution: Sheleketa, Tiutiunov and Bashmarin appeared instead of Mylokost, Strilchuk and Lomaha. The hosts started the second half actively and quickly extended their lead through a powerful strike from Dorosh. The Miners responded with chances of their own: first, Bashmarin won an aerial challenge in the box and headed over the bar after a cross from Petruk; later, Smetana fired from a set piece, but Vorobiov dealt with it confidently. With a comfortable lead, Rukh U19 gave possession to the Orange-and-Blacks and focused on counterattacks. Shakhtar U19 increased the pressure, while the opponents committed frequent fouls, resulting in dangerous set pieces. And it paid off. Within two minutes, the Pitmen managed to reduce the gap: first, Balakai got on the end of Smetana’s corner, finding space in the goal area and slotting it home; in the very next attack, Petruk beat the goalkeeper and found the target. In the closing minutes, the game was played entirely in Rukh U19’s half, and Smetana put the finishing touch with a goal following another attack.

3-4 – Shakhtar U19 lost to Rukh Lviv U19 in the final round of the Youth League and ended the season as silver medallists.
