Shakhtar women’s team defender Oksana Henyk shared her thoughts on the season results and the team’s progress, and also talked about the level of competition in the Vyshcha League
– Oksana, the season is over. What was it like for you, what are your thoughts on the team’s results?
– The season was very eventful, and most importantly, the mission was accomplished: the team maintained their position. The season was not easy, but it gave us a lot of experience, because we played in the competitive group. Playing with the strongest is difficult, but we managed. Each player gained important experience and valuable game practice, which is extremely important.
– What individual goals did you have for this season and did you manage to achieve them?
– The goal was achieved, because it was important for me to play in the first eleven, and no less important – to go through the season without injuries. The matches in the top six are as eventful and intense as possible, so it was important to properly prepare for each game. Now I understand: playing against strong opponents is not scary. I have reached a certain level and I do not plan to stop, because there is still a lot of work ahead.
– During the season you became a key player in the defence, playing in almost every match. What does this mean to you?
– This is very important for me, because I have more confidence, I feel better than before. Thanks to the head coach and my teammates, I am able to constantly progress. I will continue to give my all to bring even more benefits and victories to our team.
– How do you assess your progress throughout this season?
– I would like to note that progress is noticeable primarily in mentality, speed of decision-making, and self-confidence on the football field. However, there is still room for improvement, and we cannot be complacent.
– What was the team’s biggest achievement this season?
– The first part of the season was difficult, but in the second one we managed to show more of our character. I really liked the meeting with Kolos, when we played a draw, and this match demonstrated the true qualities of the girls. In fact, you want to take the field, win and prove that we are worth more for the sake of such emotions.
– What can you say about this year’s competition in the championship? Has it increased compared to previous years?
– Undoubtedly. We have a strong championship, and every team is competitive. There are many experienced performers in the squads, demonstrating a high level of skills. Now the championship is really high quality and much stronger than before.
