Shakhtar faced Chornomorets away on the UPL MD27

Head coach of the Orange-and-Blacks Marino Pusic chose the following line-up for this match: Fesiun played in the goal, Vinicius Tobias and Azarov appeared on the defensive wings, Bondar and Ghram played at centre-back, Kryskiv, Marlon Gomes and Bondarenko acted in midfield, Pedrinho and Newertton played as wingers, and Kaua Elias took the forward position.

Unconverted opportunities and a disallowed goal before half-time

The Miners started more actively, spending most of the opening stretch of the game in the opponent’s half of the field, and quite naturally were the first to create a dangerous opportunity: after a free kick with Ghram’s throw-in to the centre of the penalty area, Kaua Elias volleyed – the ball flew near the left post. The Odesa-based team responded with a counterattack, but Yermakov headed over the crossbar. The Pitmen could have opened the scoring in the 30th minute, when Kryskiv’s attempt was blocked by Rakitskyi, and Pedrinho curled the ball under the far post in the second-wave attack – Rudko managed the shot and saved the hosts. In the 39th minute, the visiting team even scored (Bondarenko received a pass from Kryskiv, turned around in the penalty area and sent the ball under the crossbar), but the referees recorded an offside in this episode. Shakhtar Brazilians had the last chances before the break: shots by Kaua Elias and Pedrinho from the goal-area line were blocked by the defenders of the Sailors, and Newertton tried to score with a bicycle kick, but missed the target.

Bondarenko’s winning goal and assist and Newertton’s spectacular brace

The second half also began with sharp attacks from the Orange-and-Blacks: Newertton shot from the left edge of the goalmouth into the near corner – Rudko saved, Pedrinho kicked the ball almost from the penalty area line – near the top corner. Finally, the score was opened in the 55th minute: the Pitmen earned a free kick on the semi-circle line, Artem Bondarenko shot powerfully, and the ball deflected off Butko’s back into the net – 0-1. In the middle of the half, the coaching staff of the Miners made the first substitutions, fielding Pedro Henrique and Eguinaldo. And instantly, in the 71st minute, Marino Pusic’s team doubled their lead: after a tackle on the left wing, Newertton picked up the ball, quickly dealt with three opponents and beat the goalkeeper – 0-2. And in another 4 minutes, the Brazilian scored a brace, completing the team’s beautiful attack: Eguinaldo moved to the centre and passed to Bondarenko, who feinted to break free and passed to the left to Newertton in the penalty area, the latter put the ball under the far post from under the defender’s foot – 0-3. Then, Nazaryna, Alisson and Shved came on for the Pitmen. Bondarenko was close to his second goal, but, going one-on-one with Rudko, he sent the ball over the crossbar. Shved could have scored, but he also shot over the target from the penalty area line.

3-0 – Shakhtar defeated Chornomorets in Odesa and secured at least bronze awards of the UPL.

The Miners will play their next Ukrainian League match away against Zorya on Friday, May 9. The game will kick off at 15:30.
