Shakhtar midfielder Newertton shared his impressions after the victory over Chornomorets (3-0)
– Newertton, congratulations on the victory! Today you are one of the heroes of the match, so what emotions do you have after scoring a brace?
– Thank you for the congratulations! First of all, I feel grateful for the opportunity to enter the pitch again, score two goals at a very important moment for Shakhtar, and help the team. So I am happy with both my personal achievement and the team victory.
– How, in your opinion, did this match go for Shakhtar and why were the halves so different in terms of score?
– Indeed, the first half was quite difficult: the opponent was skilled and fielded a line of five defenders, which made it difficult for us to move the ball and create attacks. It is important that we kept the pace we needed, and also played well during set pieces – everyone followed the coach’s personal guidance and instructions. And already in the second half we managed to put direct pressure on the opponent.
– Let’s recall the episodes where you scored goals. How would you describe them?
– If I am not mistaken, our left-back Pedro Henrique received the ball, moved forward with it and passed it to Eguinaldo, who also ran very confidently, then gave me a clear pass to the flank, where I ran at speed and managed to beat the opponent and shoot into the right corner.
– You are talking about the second goal, but what about the first one?
– Both goals are very similar.
– How important are these goals for you in terms of confidence?
– Of course, these are very necessary goals, especially in the context of my confidence and overall for the team victory. I think these goals will help me be more confident in my own abilities and will contribute to my development at Shakhtar, and will also be important in our fight in the championship and before the Ukrainian Cup final.
– There are times when head coach of the team Marino Pusic can intuitively feel who exactly can score today. Did you have such a conversation today before this match? Or maybe someone else told you that you would score today?
– I have good conversations with Chris van der Weerden, one of Mister’s assistants, who always supports me, tries to give me some guidance. And he always emphasises that he is confident in me and feels that I will leave the pitch either with effective actions or with a good performance. And this time that is exactly what happened.
– What are your personal expectations for Shakhtar’s upcoming matches in May?
– Of course, first of all, I expect a positive result. We are all aiming for the best possible result for us, including the Ukrainian Cup final and the other three remaining games in the championship.
