Shakhtar women's team hosted Seasters on the Vyshcha League second stage MD8
Shakhtar women’s team head coach Roman Zaiev selected the following line-up for the clash with Seasters: Karban took the place between the sticks, Henyk and Kravchuk appeared at centre-back, Sikorska and Kotovets operated as fullbacks, Zavidova, Mostova and Starukhina formed the midfield, Vykaliuk and Holovach played on the flanks of the attacking line and Chaika wad deployed as the centre forward.
Half in a positional battle
The teams made a cagey start, exchanging early efforts from Vykaliuk (saved by the keeper) and Bondarieva (wide). In the middle of the second ten-minute period, the Miners pinned down the Odesa side, and after some individual play, Anpilohova’s goal was threatened – Holovach took a shot, but the goalkeeper turned it out for a corner. After that, Starukhina unleashed a long-ranger, but it went off target. Seasters responded with several potentially dangerous attacks, but Karban's disciplined defence and confident play prevented the opponents from succeeding. At the same time, Shakhtar were close to opening the scoring: Zavidova took a tight shot into the near corner – the goalkeeper reacted but failed to catch the ball properly, allowing it to slip out of her hands; however, the Miners were unable to finish it off. The final minutes of the first half were marked by a struggle without dangerous chances.
Chaika's goal secured the victory
The second half began more lively, with the Odesa-based outfit pressing the Orange-and-Blacks in the penalty area and creating most of their threats from corner kicks. Subsequently, Shakhtar coaching staff reacted by making a double substitution, fielding Zaborovets and Veherych. The Miners increased their pace and pushed the ball away from their own goal. Henyk and Kotovets, who had shots following set-pieces, failed to take advantage of the excellent opportunities to put the team ahead. In the next moment, Zaborovets came close to scoring, but her attempt from a clear-cut position sailed over the crossbar. Finally, towards the end of the match, the opportunities created were converted into a goal: Chaika took a pass from Vykaliuk and finished a one-on-one with the goalkeeper, making it 1-0.
1-0 – Shakhtar women’s team claimed a narrow home win over Seasters. The Miners will face Ladomyr in the next match at the Arsenal Arena on May 10.
