Shakhtar women’s team hosted Polissia Zhytomyr in the Vyshcha League round 12

Roman Zaiev selected the following starting line-up for the game against Polissia: Ustinova was in goal, Sikorska, Krachuk, Lutsan and Pipchenko formed the defensive line, Starukhina, Kuksa and Veherych played in midfield, Holovach and Zavidova operated on the wings of the attack, with Chaika leading the line.

A bright start but a disappointing result

Shakhtar players immediately began attacking Danets’ goal, and Zavidova and Chaika both had promising chances to take the lead, but the goalkeeper repeatedly saved Polissia from conceding. The Zhytomyr side sat deeper and tried to respond with breakaway moves after interceptions. Thus, in the 34th minute, after winning the second ball in the centre, the visitors launched a rapid attack that Mushchenska finished with a successful shot – not without a deflection. After scoring, the Wolves did not drop into a low block and instead tried to keep more control of the ball, while the hosts immediately sought to restore parity. The flank pairing of Sikorska and Zavidova was particularly active, repeatedly adding sharpness to the play, although it never resulted in truly meaningful efforts on goal.

Chaika’s goal restores parity

After the interval, Shakhtar women’s team head coach Roman Zaiev refreshed the left side of the defence: Kotovets came on in place of Pipchenko. In the second half, the Miners took control of the ball and tried to break through Polissia’s defence by playing fluidly around the penalty area, while the opponents, after interceptions, continually played the ball forward to Stets – but it was difficult for the forward to gain a foothold due to the reliable work of Kravchuk and Lutsan. In the 70th minute, Shakhtar finally managed to turn their efforts into a goal: Holovach delivered a delicate pass from the flank to Chaika, who broke through one-on-one with Danets, beat the goalkeeper and restored parity. The closing minutes were spent in Polissia’s half, with the visitors defending compactly and managing to hold on to the scoreline.

1-1 – Shakhtar shared the points with Polissia. Next Wednesday, November 19, the sides will meet again in the Ukrainian Cup quarter-finals in Zhytomyr.
