Shakhtar midfielder Yehor Nazaryna shared his impressions of the victory over Shamrock Rovers (2-1)

– How do you assess the game and the result?
– The most important thing is that we won. We achieved a positive result and took three points away – that’s the main thing. But I think we will analyse this game because there were mistakes: we could have been winning 3-0 or 4-0, but we conceded – 2-1 and there was some tension at the end of the match. But the most important thing is that we won.

– Shamrock Rovers showed very physical and combative football. How did you feel facing the opponents on the pitch?
– To be honest, their style reminded me of the Aberdeen match we played away. The same combative team, playing long balls and getting on the second balls – everything we expected from them.

– Tell us about the goal you scored. What was the key in that moment?
– I’m very happy I managed to score and help the team win. I shot, as usual, from a free kick and a slight deflection helped – the ball went in. I’ll say it again, I’m really happy to have helped the team secure the victory.

– Shakhtar had another goal, which was unfortunately disallowed. How do you assess that decision?
– I was right on the line and I also think there was an offside, unfortunately. But if we had scored a third goal, that would have been it – the game would be over. It would have been 3-0, with the match completely under our control, but the goal wasn’t given and the opponents got a bit of momentum after that decision, which allowed them to press us and score.

– Was that moment perhaps what allowed Shamrock Rovers to score against Shakhtar?
– I think so. But our mistakes also contributed to that goal. And I believe we shouldn’t make such errors – we need to control the game, finish it 2-0 and keep a clean sheet.

– But Shakhtar have moved closer to the main goal – reaching the top eight…
– Yes, that’s our goal and we will do everything for it. We still have two matches and our aim is to win, so we will do everything possible to make it into the top eight.

– There was a huge number of Ukrainian fans in the stands. How did you feel their support? What would you like to say to them?
– You said “fans” and it gave me goosebumps. There really were so many of our people in the stands; it’s always nice to see them. I remember we played in Scotland and there were also many of our fans there. Here, probably half the crowd here were Ukrainians. It’s really nice to see our people and we thank them for their support – we won thanks to them.
