Shakhtar women’s team hosted one of the championship leaders on the Vyshcha League first stage MD8

Shakhtar women’s team head coach Roman Zaiev selected the following line-up for the game against Metalist 1925: Ustinov took the place between the sticks, Kravchuk and Lutsan operated as fullbacks, Henyk and Balatska appeared at centre-back, Starukhina, Chaika and Kotovets formed the midfield, Holovach and Sikorska played on the attacking flanks, Veherych was deployed as the centre forward.

A nervous start

The Kharkiv side began the match strongly and opened the scoring as early as the 2nd minute: team captain Apanashchenko headed the ball over Ustinova during a corner routine. Metalist 1925 enjoyed territorial dominance and constantly created danger inside the Orange-and-Blacks’ penalty area. In the 17th minute, Molodiuk found herself in a shooting position and aimed a powerful strike towards the top corner, but Ustinova, diving, managed to turn the ball behind for a corner. However, just two minutes later, the Kharkiv team doubled their lead with a long-ranger from Apanashchenko. The Miners focused on defending and tried to counterattack after interceptions, but their attempts were stopped by Metalist 1925’s midfield line, who kept pressing forward. Kotyk and Zaborovets had opportunities to extend the lead, and in stoppage time Molodiuk scored the third goal against Shakhtar.

Playing under pressure in own half

After the break, Shakhtar coaching staff strengthened the defensive line with a substitution: Mokhnach replaced Lutsan. In the second half, the visitors continued to take the initiative, testing Shakhtar’s defence, and in the 50th minute Petryk converted a one-on-one with Ustinova. Zinchenko’s side needed only four more minutes to score again – this time Kunina found the net. Later, head coach of the Orange-and-Blacks Roman Zaiev made further changes, sending Myronenko and Kuksa on to replace Veherych and Balatska. The Kharkiv players remained well-organised and kept up their tempo, with Petryk scoring again in the 65th minute. Towards the end of the match, both teams created chances, and the Miners tried to net a consolation goal, but Slavych confidently saved Holovach’s effort.

Shakhtar’s women’s team suffered a home defeat to Metalist 1925. Roman Zaiev's side will play their league match against Kryvbas in Kryvyi Rih on October 12. The game at the Sparta Stadium will kick off at 12:00.
