Mariupol Neskoreni: friendly matches in the Dnipropetrovsk region

Mariupol Neskoreni, participants of the Among Your Own project, played a series of friendly matches in the Dnipropetrovsk region
At the beginning of October, a series of friendly matches took place in the Dnipropetrovsk region, featuring Mariupol Neskoreni, Mykolaivska Hromada and Veterany – Vuhillia. The matches were dedicated to the Day of Defenders of Ukraine.
Among Your Own is a project supporting the defenders of Mariupol and their families, launched by Shakhtar Social together with the Heart of Azovstal NGO in June 2024. The main goal of the initiative is to promote participants’ physical and emotional recovery, support their social adaptation and create opportunities for quality leisure activities.
So far, 104 Mariupol defenders and their family members have joined the project. As part of the programme, regular football training sessions, friendly matches, family events, group viewings of FC Shakhtar matches and visits to the team’s games are organised.
The matches were played in a round-robin format. Despite the friendly nature of the clashes, there was intense sporting competition on the field, with a high level of commitment and team spirit. The first spot was claimed by Mariupol Neskoreni, participants of the Among Your Own project. Mykolaivska Hromada, composed of soldiers currently defending the Donetsk direction, took second spot. Third spot was awarded to Veterany – Vuhillia, formed by employees of DTEK Pavlohradcoal.

After the full-scale invasion, I lost my wife and children, and sport became something that gives me the strength to keep going. Regarding the team’s performance: everyone gave their all on the field, and we achieved the result together. Football is about unity and mutual trust.
