Shakhtar women’s team faced Mariupol in the 4th preliminary stage of the Ukrainian Cup
Shakhtar women’s team head coach has selected the following line-up for the Cup game: Ustinova was in goal, Balatska and Henyk played in central defence, Kotovets and Sikorska appeared as fullbacks, Myronenko, Starukhina and Veherych formed the midfield, Holovach and Zavidova operated on the wings, Chaika was deployed as the centre forward.
Advantage from the first minutes
From the start, Shakhtar players took control of the ball and searched for ways to break through Krasikova’s goal. The first dangerous chance of the match came from Henyk, who aimed for the corner from distance – just wide of the post. Two minutes later, after a well-worked attacking move, Chaika struck from a tight angle – the goalkeeper kept her team in it with a difficult save. Eventually, the Orange-and-Blacks managed to open the scoring quickly: in the 13th minute, Chaika calmly converted a one-on-one situation with the keeper. Just 5 minutes later, Shakhtar doubled their advantage: Myronenko left Krasikova no chance with a precise shot. The Miners kept up the tempo, and in the next attack, Veherych scored with a clinical effort. In the 34th minute, Zavidova initiated another decisive attack: Yuliana, bursting forward, outpaced her marker and played the ball into the path of Chaika, who closed in on the keeper and squared it to Holovach to finish. Before the break, Shakhtar players created plenty more scoring opportunities, but Mariupol’s defence and goalkeeper denied them.
Complete domination
After the break, Shakhtar women’s team made a substitution: Mokhnach came on to replace Zavidova. A natural defender, she operated as a winger against Mariupol, immediately pressuring Krasikova’s goal with quick runs and crosses into the box. In the 59th minute, Mokhnach could have crowned her efforts with a goal, but the ball went wide. Soon after, she made her goal involvement with an assist for Chaika, who struck a brilliant header into the net. Two minutes later, Kotovets had a chance to score, but the goalkeeper reacted to her close-range effort. The Miners fully controlled the game, not allowing their opponents to create a single dangerous chance near Ustinova’s goal. In the 69th minute, after a well-worked move and a pass from Mokhnach, Veherych found the net. Until the end, Shakhtar kept playing fluidly near the opposition’s box, and it was Mokhnach who put the finishing touch with a powerful strike past the keeper.
7-0 – Shakhtar’s women team secured a convincing victory and advanced to the Ukrainian Cup quarter-finals. Roman Zaiev’s side will play the next match against Vorskla Poltava on September 21.
