Shakhtar youth team will play against their Rukh counterparts away in the U19 National League round 7

September 27, Vynnyky, Bohdan Markevych Stadium, 13:00

Match build-up

Last week, Oleksii Bielik’s side secured a convincing victory over Zorya U19 (4-0) though Kostiuk’s goal and Tiutiunov’s hat-trick, extending their winning streak to 6 matches. The Miners remain the highest-scoring team in the league (23 goals) and boast the best defence (only 3 conceded), retaining first spot. Preparation for the game against Rukh U19 took place at the Academy facility in Shchaslyve and at the Sviatoshyn TB.

Opponents

During the summer off-season, the Lviv side made changes to the coaching bench: The team were taken over by Mykhailo Diachuk-Stavytskyi, who won the DUFLU silver medal with Rukh U17 last season, replacing Denys Kolchin, who became head coach of Seasters.

Under the new coach, the Yellow-and-Blacks have collected 10 points in six matches (3 wins, 1 draw and 2 losses) and currently sit 6th in the league table. The Lviv side demonstrates an attacking style of play: they are second only to their Shakhtar counterparts in terms of the goals (22). In previous rounds, Rukh U19 thrashed Epicentr U19 (6-0) and LNZ U19 (5-1), and also played a high-scoring draw against Metalist 1925 U19 (4-4).

Match background

The teams met 9 times at the Youth League: 5 wins of the Orange-and-Blacks, 2 draws and 2 victory of the Lviv outfit.

Previous meeting

On May 23, the opponents faced off at the Rukh TC. In the early stages, Shakhtar U19 came under heavy pressure from Rukh U19 and conceded three times before half-time, with Dorosh, Yakhontov and Denysov on the scoresheet. After the break, the hosts quickly scored a fourth goal (Dorosh again). Shakhtar responded: Balakai and Petruk reduced the deficit to 2-4, and Smetana scored a third to bring it within one. Despite late pressure, Shakhtar U19 could not equalise and lost 3-4.
