Shakhtar women’s team played against EMS-Podillia away in the Vyshcha League round 7 in Vinnytsia
Head coach of the Orange-and-Blacks Roman Zaiev fielded the following starting line-up for the game: Karban was in goal, Lutsan, Henyk, Balatska and Kravchuk formed the back line, Starukhina, Holovach and Chaika appeared in midfield, Kotovets and Sikorska started on the wings of the attack, with Veherych leading the line.
Playing on top
The opening spell of the match passed without any real danger near either goal. The Vinnytsia side tried to reach the final third and applied high pressing against the Miners, but Shakhtar seized the initiative over time, took control of the ball and began to threaten Chubak’s goal more often. In the 11th minute Holovach took the first shot in the match – just wide of the post. The attack paid off in the next moment: Chaika turned the ball on the wing and played it to the unmarked Kravchuk, who easily delivered it into the penalty area, where Sikorska was perfectly placed to finish. Shakhtar players kept playing fluidly, and Sikorska could have scored a brace after a textbook corner routine. This time, however, her header struck the crossbar. Chaika had a great chance a few minutes later: bursting free at pace, she broke into the penalty area and fired – just wide. In the closing minutes of the first half, the hosts tried to orchestrate a quick counterattack, but Shakhtar’s defence stood firm and cleared the potential danger in time.
Fight until the final whistle
Shakhtar coach Roman Zaiev made a positional reshuffle and a double substitution after the break: Myronenko and Kuksa came on for Kotovets and Sikorska. It was the Vinnytsia side who started the second half more actively, seeking to equalise and getting into shooting positions more often. The Orange-and-Blacks responded with attacks of their own and managed to double their lead from a corner: after a scramble in the box, Lutsan was the first to pursue rebounds. Both teams played open football. In the 66th minute, Paskarenko pulled one back with a one-on-one finish, bringing the intrigue back. Shakhtar coaching staff reacted quickly with a substitution, refreshing the flank of the attack: Vykaliuk came on for Veherych, after which Chaika moved to the centre-forward position. The pacey Vykaliuk immediately added energy, as her crosses repeatedly created dangerous chances, but they could not be converted. Myronenko also had an opportunity with a powerful strike from distance, but the goalkeeper dealt with it confidently. The closing stage of the match was tense for the Orange-and-Blacks, but they held on to their lead and saw the game through to its logical conclusion.
2-1 – Shakhtar women’s team claimed an away win over EMS-Podillia. Roman Zaiev’s side will entertain Metalist 1925 Kharkiv on October 5. The game at the Arsenal Arena kicks off at 12:00, with the live stream available on Shakhtar’s official YouTube channel.
