Shakhtar U19 faced their Polissia counterparts away in the National League MD24 centrepiece game
Shakhtar U19 head coach Oleksii Bielik picked the following starting line-up: Chympoiesh was in goal, Kostiuk, Mylokost, Onishchuk and Kaluzhnyi formed the defensive line, Smetana, Bundash and Tsukanov played in midfield, Strilchuk and Tiutiunov operated on the attacking flanks, while Lomaha took the central forward position.
An active game with a brace from Tsukanov
The Miners made a strong start to the match. Viktor Tsukanov was highly active and already early on, after a throw-in, carried the ball through the central area, approached the edge of the centre circle and produced a shot that went just over the crossbar. His next opportunity proved decisive: in the 11th minute, Tsukanov intercepted the ball, moved into a shooting position and beat the goalkeeper. Polissia immediately stepped up their intensity and shifted the game into the Orange-and-Blacks’ half, where they occasionally threatened Chympoiesh’s goal. In the 14th minute, Yoka tested from distance (off target), and two minutes later, Kovalenko had a great chance to equalise but hit the post. The match gradually became more balanced in terms of attacks, but the Miners were more effective in front of goal, with Tsukanov completing his brace in the 31st minute. In the closing minutes of the first half, the Pitmen were more proactive and enjoyed more possession
Pressing and discipline
The second half began with an opportunity at Spoda’s goal. Lomaha shot dangerously from close range after a through pass from Tiutiunov, but the goalkeeper reacted in time to make the save. The Wolves tried to respond and move into better attacking positions, but Shakhtar’s defenders remained disciplined, chose their positioning well, blocked the opposition’s attempts and also carried their own attacks. In the 71st minute, Kaliuzhnyi aimed from the flank, but Spoda made the save. The Pitmen pressed high and did not allow their opponents to calmly progress into their half, which occasionally led to minor fouls. The final stage of the match was played at a calm tempo, without clear chances.
2-0 – Shakhtar’s youth team secure an away victory over Polissia U19. The Miners will play Kudrivka U19 in the next round April 25.
