Shakhtar U19 hosted Rukh U19 in the Youth League round 22 in Kyiv
Shakhtar youth team head coach Oleksii Bielik fielded the following starting line-up for the match against Rukh U19 after a two-week competitive break in the championship: Bahlai was in goal, Kostiuk, Mylokost, Onishchuk and Kaluzhnyi formed the defensive line, Tiutiunov, Balakai and Tsukanov played in midfield, Harmash and Strilchuk operated on the attacking flanks, while Kanteh took the central forward position.
Fast-paced play with a single goal from Strilchuk
The match started with danger near the opponents’ goal: first, Uhrynchuk threatened Bahlai’s goal (off target), and a minute later, the Miners responded with a dangerous free-kick from Harmash (just wide of the post). The best chance to put the Pitmen ahead early in the match fell to Kanteh, who found himself one-on-one with Vorobiov after a through pass from Tsukanov, but the striker hit the post. The game then continued at a fast pace in both directions, but the Orange-and-Blacks were more dangerous. Thus, in the 21st minute, the Miners built up a promising attack down Harmash’s flank, and Tiutiunov found himself in a shooting position, but failed to hit the target. The opponents continued to play at a high tempo, and towards the end of the first half, the Miners took the lead after Strilchuk carried the ball down the flank, entered the penalty area and struck the bottom corner of the net. Already in the final minute, Strilchuk delivered a brilliant pass into the attacking zone, but Balakai lacked a matter of centimetres to reach the ball.
Pressure from the Miners after the break
The second half was started more actively by the Pitmen, who reached the final third more often, with Kanteh once again being prominent. In the 52nd minute, after a pass from deep, he could have doubled the advantage by going one-on-one with the goalkeeper, but was unable to get a shot away. In the 58th minute, Shakhtar U19 head coach Oleksii Bielik refreshed the left flank with a substitution: Lomaha came on in place of Harmash. Rukh players tried to respond with their own chances, and in the 66th minute, Uhrynchuk produced a superb pass to release Sebro into a clear scoring position, but Bahlai quickly closed down the angle and blocked the shot. In response, the Orange-and-Blacks struck immediately: in the penalty area Vorobiov fouled Kanteh, for which the referee awarded a clear penalty, confidently converted by the centre-forward. It took Kanteh little time to complete his brace in the 73rd minute, when he finished a well-worked move with a precise shot. Shortly afterwards, Shakhtar U19 made a double substitution, with Harabazhii and Davydenko coming on. The closing minutes were tense, and after Kanteh’s clear-cut chance, Rukh U19 responded with a goal from Sebro following a corner.
3-1 – Shakhtar U19 defeated Rukh U19 at home.
Next Wednesday, April 8, the Miners will play the rescheduled U19 National League MD17 game against Karpaty U19. The match at the Sviatoshyn TB kicks off at 12:00.
