Shakhtar U21 played Epicentr U21 away in the second round of the UPL-2
Shakhtar U21 head coach Oleksii Bielik named the following starting XI for the match against Epicentr U21: Bahlai started in goal, Reshetnikov, Harabazhii, Kaliuzhnyi and Verhun operated in defence, Davydenko, Tiutiunov and Balakai were in midfield, Zubrii and Petruk operated on the wings, with Harmash leading the attack.
Balakai opened the scoring
The opponents started the match at a high tempo, competing for possession and looking to control the ball. The first real chance fell to the Pitmen when Harmash reacted to a mistake by the Epicentr U21 goalkeeper and picked up the loose ball, but his shot was blocked by a defender. Zubrii immediately tried his luck from inside the box, but his effort was blocked again. The hosts briefly established themselves in the Orange-and-Blacks’ half, but failed to threaten Bahlai’s goal. The Miners, meanwhile, were more effective going forward: Balakai capitalised on a mistake by Zaporozhets, intercepted the ball, moved into a good position and fired past Vavshko. Towards the end of the half, Bahlai produced a fine save to deny Oroshkevych.
Goals exchanged after the break
The second half started with a dangerous chance near the Orange-and-Blacks’ goal: Ukrainets drew several defenders towards him, found some space and got a shot on target – Bahlai was equal to it. The Miners had more of the ball, but Epicentr U21 did not sit deep in their own penalty area and tried to build attacks after winning possession back, although they created little danger. As the end of the match approached, both sides began to play more openly, and in the 81st minute, Melnyk had a great chance to level the score – Bahlai reacted in time to make the save. However, the hosts’ next attack resulted in a goal: Rostkivskyi found the target. The visitors immediately stepped up their efforts and, in the 86th minute, Balakai scored again with a precise shot into the top corner.
