Shakhtar youth team faced their LNZ counterparts in the U19 National League round 2

Maksym Malyshеv’s side began the season with a win over Lviv U19 (2-0). Compared with that game, the Miners’ head coach made some changes to the line-up, bringing in five new players, with Bytsyk, Derykon, Byrladianu, Chornenkyi and Haponenko starting.

A three-hour half with a goal from Derykon

The game began at a high tempo, with the first shot on target coming from the visitors – Chympoiesh dealt with Pylypei’s long-range effort. However, the teams did not have much time to settle into the game, as the match was suspended in the 11th minute due to an air raid alert. After the game resumed, the Orange-and-Blacks took control and opened the scoring in the 16th minute: Safonov launched the attack, Koman sent a cross from the left flank, and Artem Derykon finished at the far post, making it 1-0. The Pitmen continued to control possession and look for ways through to the opposition goal, but midway through the half, the match was interrupted by another air raid alert, this time lasting almost two hours. After the teams returned, they needed some time to find their rhythm again, and the remainder of the half consisted largely of a midfield battle and numerous fouls. Only in added time did the Miners have a chance to double their lead, when Haponenko hit the post with a diving header following Derykon’s free-kick delivery.

A tense battle and a winning goal from Zheliba

The second half began with another dangerous free-kick from the hosts, but this time the ball went wide. The LNZ players became more active going forward after the break, and although they failed to create any real danger from open play, the Cherkasy side also benefited from a set piece: in the 62nd minute, Burlaka headed home a corner to level the score. The Miners immediately launched an assault on the opposition’s goal. Voloshko’s fall in the visitors’ penalty area went unnoticed by the referee, while Derykon’s shot went over the crossbar. Eventually, in the 73rd minute, the Orange-and-Blacks regained the lead: after a prolonged attack, Yan Zheliba fired from outside the penalty area, placing the ball precisely inside the right post – 2-1. In the closing stages, the hosts had a chance to strengthen their lead when Bida went one-on-one with the Cherkasy side’s goalkeeper, but the forward was unable to beat him.

2-1 – Shakhtar U19 beat LNZ U19 in their second match of the U19 National League. Maksym Malyshеv’s side will play their next match away against Polissia U19 on August 19.
