Shakhtar U21 midfielder Denys Petruk shared his thoughts on the win over Kharkiv U21

– Every league match is very important, and we treat all our opponents with the same level of seriousness. I wouldn’t say that the game against Kharkiv U21 was difficult as we were in complete control and brought it to a logical conclusion, but we failed to convert quite a few chances.

– You mostly threatened the opposition goal after quick counter-attacks. Did you work on this in training?
– We work on both attacking and defensive play in training. I wouldn’t say that our training is specifically focused on counter-attacks, but that is how the match unfolded, and we have to be ready for anything.

– You have scored three goals in the opening rounds of the UPL-2. How important are these goals to you? And tell us about your goal against Kharkiv U21.
– I’m happy to help the team with goals, but I have enough chances to score even more. I would like to thank the coaches for emphasising that I should focus more on getting shots on goal. After a positional attack, I made a run into the open space, controlled the ball with my first touch and rolled it into the far corner with my second.

– Shakhtar U21 are heading into a short break with a 100 per cent record from the opening rounds. How do you assess the start to the season and what goals have you set yourself?
– We have a young squad made up of players born in 2007 and 2008. Despite this, we are showing that we can get the better of opponents who involve senior team players – that is only a positive for us, and we are setting ourselves the highest possible goals. I aim to score as many goals as possible and provide plenty of assists.
